Well, we're still learning about it. I won't proclaim to know anything beyond what's been reported. But France is saying today that they think he was radicalized extremely quickly - he wasn't on any watch lists or alerts or anything. I just don't know what you can do about a guy like that, particularly w/ the kind of attack he used.

This is one of those "feel good" suggestions. Can you show where that would have prevented any attack that we've seen over the past year or 2?

Trump feeds the notion that these guys widely discuss their plans in the confines of the mosque, and if we could just get in there, we'd know about them ahead of time. It really plays to the worst in people -their most paranoid fears. I don't really see a basis in reality.

Well, he's only one of many, unfortunately. What about making it illegal to not report suspicious behavior? We do something similar under child protection laws.

Well then, your missing the point. Several, actually. If and when it's discovered that a mosque is disseminating radical materials or preaching it, shut it down.

After one or two are shut down, this could get the moderates to go on the proverbial witch hunt for us. Since the message would be clearly sent that we have zero tolerance for radical Islam.

A lot of hopes & wishes in there - and we'd be violating 2 of the principles that make America what it is to do it.

Personally, I'm not interested in redefining America in order to try to "save" it.

We have this little thing called the Constitution, lol. It stops the government from deciding that free exercise of a religion by itself is actionable.
