So here's the difference.

Because of affirmative action, schools aren't allowed to have too much of any racial/ethnic group. Right now, Harvard has too many Asians. They're not Anti-Asian, they aren't opposed to having Asians attend, they just need to cut back on Asians so things are more even.
As for Trump, he doesn't need to call COVID-19 the "Chinese Virus," he's only doing it to take the heat off himself and put it on the Chinese.
So yeah, it's a different situation.
