More failed ideas. Why not just say what you mean and let a coalition of the 7 or 8 big corporations rule this country?

You kind of left something out that the Greeks did. They eliminated tax loop holes for the wealthy and have began prosecuting the wealthy who have cheated on their taxes to recover that revenue and have raised taxes on the wealthy to pay down their debt.

You want to cut the minimum wage? Go ahead. I have a feelign it will hurt a wing nut like you far more then it will me! LOL

Just a weird question... What would happen to the Unions who link their wages to the minimum if we lowered minimum wage? Would their contracts automatically cut their pay too? Does anybody here know? I can ask my FIL, but it would be easier if somebody here would know. Not that I believe we'd ever cut that, it's just an intellectual curiosity.

And to answer the "Conservative's" question. Representatives will never take action like that until there is no other option, too much of their constituency consists of people who think that their specific government largesse is the blessed event that makes government "necessary" and they'll vote for somebody else.

Really, simply changing the automatic increase and going to zero basis budgeting will make a huge difference and begin our turn away from the cliff we perpetually run towards. No more auto increases, time to justify your budget increase each year. That way when the budget is only increasing by 4% rather than the automatic 8% increase built in to the budget levels it won't be a "cut"...

It's kind of sad that Britain is that close behind us with such a tiny compared population and resources. They're doing well for themselves.

These are per capita figures. The point of population adjusted figures is to get rid of population as a factor. And while we have more resources, obviously, they're divided amongst more people, and Britain has essentially unhindered access to all EU resources anyway. Delaware has a GDP per capita of $70k a year - is that supposed to be surprising, due to the fact that they obviously have a smaller population than the US as a whole? Again, no.

If you compare raw US GDP to the UK GDP, in contrast, the US has $14.58 Trillion while the UK has $2.25 Trillion. Obviously, they are doing well for themselves, because they're always somewhere in the top when it comes to GDP per capita. But that's not surprising. They've always been a relatively developed country. I'd really be a lot more surprised if they were way behind us.

My attempt in posting the graph was to point out that their GDP had collapsed by $10k in the last few years of Conservative government and austerity while the US's has managed to continue growing during the Obama administration.
