I find it remarkable that we have people on here complaining about national healthcare...

That everything should go to the free market, that somehow the laissez faire attitude is the solution to all problems...

These pimple faced college geeks know nothing about the real world...

Or else they would not have gone to a PUBLIC SCHOOL.... they would not go to a COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY.... as it is a PUBLIC INSTITUTION... They would have never borrowed any books from a PUBLIC LIBRARY...

They would never pay money to the local, state, or federal government since these are all state institutions....

My god the dumbasses on the right... Unbelievable their utter hypocrisy that they dont even understand that throughout their lives they have been living under the state system....

You know they should all move to a place where everything is PAY FOR PLAY....

What you cant think of a place like that? Cause there is no such a fucken thing...

You notice how libertarians never complain about socialized education or socialized local government...

FWIW, libertarians are not all 21 year old kids. Some of the world's brightest minds, including Economic Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman, espoused libertarian beliefs. You are definitely free to share you views but this simplification in an attempt to discredit libertarianism was very poorly done imo.

ck's parody of idiot dem arguments is actually pretty accurate. I have heard many dems argue this same stupid logic that a libertarian should avoid all government services. Well, then you should have to avoid all free market services.

My guess is she's gonna say how he helped Pinochet, which is of course horseshit as he only put forth economic reforms and he did not run the secret police. Moreover those economic reforms are what made Chile so prosperous that they could afford to care more about social issues and the police.

You on the right amaze me. Pinochet was one of the most brutal dictators of the last half of the 20th century. He used the military to overthrow a democratically elected leader. Over 20,000 people were imprisoned without trial and torture was one of his basic tools for repression. He outlawed political parties. thousands of people were "disappeared" because they opposed his totalitarian regime. But he was a great guy cause he implemented economic reform that created greater poverty than existed BEFORE he took over. Dano do you REALLY support a government that kills its people to maintain power so long as it lets the markets alone? The problem is that Friedman claimed to be a great supporter of individual freedom as well as economic freedom but he backed a man that was a brutal totalitarian. Pinochet was in direct opposition to Friedman's beliefs in individual freedom. If you supported Pinochet you supported EVERYTHING he did because his iron fisted rule is what ensured the market economy that Chile had.

I never said Pinochet was a "great guy", that is one serious strawman. I said only that he wasn't Friedman nor did Friedman implement any of that policy. This is hypertargeting anything associated, including a philosophy of economics that Pinochet may have used. Friedman promoted a Free Market that others suggested was an endorsement of all of his policies, which Friedman never endorsed or supported and was, in fact, fighting by his pushing for free markets.

His belief was that the introduction of a Free Market would invariably lead to a less Authoritarian government, it proved to be true in this case. Promoting a Free Market was his way to battle Authoritarianism, not to "endorse" it.

This kind of thing just shows an ingorance of Friedman's philosophy and economic theories and because of that ignorance gives him "motives" that simply were not there.

Friedman did this because he believed it would free the people of Chile, not because he endorsed such actions. At least read something of his philosophy before attempting to associate promotion of a Free Market as equal to endorsement of authoritarianism on a man who wrote many books on how Free Market systems lead inevitably to less authoritarian government.

Sort of like believing that someone who gets 2% nationally and 6% in his own home state can be president. That's pathetic

Sort of like cheering on someone who pretends to be an anti-corporatist while at the same time trying to return to the days of the robber barons. That is indeed pathetic
