Life Under Trump

There have been two other times when I thought you were pro-Trump, but I decided to withhold judgment. Are you?

So I'm a lifelong Republican who didn't vote for Trump, don't support his tariffs or his trade agenda but because I asked what Hillary or Bernie would be doing I'm pro-Trump? This is some good 1984 stuff right here.

What were Hillary and Bernie going to do to change China's behavior, that they complained about during the campaign, that wouldn't have the cost tariffs do to our economy?

You think this will do good with China? How? If they react in kind, we will pay a lot more for the crap they send here. If they stop our goods, 120 billion dollars of American exports will end. Exactly, who does that help?

If you want someone to blame, it is American corporations that moved their manufacturing to China, lock, stock and intellectual property for lower wages and no environmental laws. We gave them our expertise and our accumulated knowledge for short term profits. The Chinese embraced it and they are growing rapidly and will surpass us soon.

How many times do I have to post it? I support free trade. I support NAFTA, I support CAFTA, I supported the TPP - we should have signed it. I do not support tariffs. I do not in any way support Trump's trade agenda. My beliefs on trade don't come from who is President. Yes there is downside to free trade and that should be addressed but on the whole trade increases growth in our country.

Unions have historically supported tariffs and protectionism. So if you claim to be pro-worker, pro-union; were anti-TPP because it supposedly hurt workers, and you support Bernie, what is your problem here? What would Bernie have done differently?

Doesn't matter!They weren't elected!

Well when you post they should have been elected it generally means you feel they would have done a better job so I'm asking what their trade policy would be here. And thank you for showing you don't have actual beliefs on trade other than what the person you support tells you. If someone else does the same thing then all of a sudden it's bad.

I know Trump isn't the answer!

Wow. Is anyone on this board capable of discussing what we would like to see on trade policy? Or are we all the same idiots we mock everyone else for being?

Unions have historically supported tariffs. What is it about these tariffs and trade policy you think unions wouldn't like? (not a rhetorical question nor is it a question to start a fight. It's an actual discussion)

Your premise seems to be that Trump is at least as good, if not better than Hillary on foreign policy.

It is a premise I do not accept. Until a few months ago, I would have never imagined any American president gloating about a trade war, and blustering that we would win it.

There is no one - not Ronald Reagan, not Bill Clinton, not Hillary Clinton who is that unstable, unreliable, and just dangerously incompetent.

Dangerous times we live in, mate. If you want to entertain the possibility that the Orange Clown is at least as good as Hillary, if not better, then that is a fantasy I am not going to indulge in.

And there you have it. There isn't shit that the Turd-in-Chief can do via tariffs to equalize trade. He can do a lot to crash the markets and piss off our global trading partners though. He's making America fucked by doing that.

Good points.

I am not against the possibility of limited tariffs when appropriate, when measured, when a critical American industry is at stake, and when all other options are exhausted.

What I am against is an incompetent, Orange Fat Ass threatening trade wars, acting like a bull in a china shop, and just generally acting like he does not know what the eff he is doing!

Foreign policy? Dude, I'm talking about trade policy. I can only state so many times how bad Trump is on trade. I ask the question because I want to hear other opinions. I want to hear what people who supported Bernie and Hillary want to see on trade. I supported Gary Johnson. He supported TPP and he would not be engaging in tariffs or this trade war.

Fair enough, sorry if I came across as a dick.

I really don't know what Hillary would do, since she is not president.
I do know neither HIllary or Bernie would threaten trade wars, and bluster to the world that we "would easily win a trade war".
I do know that Hillary and Bernie are smart, competent people who would study the issue, and consult with a range of people. Something Trump ain't known for.

False bravado dangerous bluster, and unnecessary belligerence is not something we have come to expect from American presidents.

hmm. looks like you support targeted tariffs on China, since our steel industry is collapsing by unfair trade
( forget free trade -think fair trade).

You just don't want Trump to be doing it..
Unfortunately Trump is the only 'politician' out there that will make moves against globalism. Bernie would have too

Well, at least you tried. Unfortunately, you're dealing with people afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome.
