Well Putin was smart enough to know his cost would be low for what he wanted because Biden is a weak leader. So Putin pissed in Biden's face and took what he wanted knowing Biden couldn't stop him.

Egged on by the White Louse, Senate DEMOCRATS killed the bill. No other attempt to sanction Russia was introduced by Chuck Schumer or any DEMOCRAT.
On January 19, bungling Biden publicly signaled that his junta would be okay with some Russian movement into Ukrainian territory.
Just two days ago, President Zelensky indicated that he was less than excited about how bungling Biden was “helping” him.
Over the weekend, a security conference was held in Munich on the Ukraine “crisis.” For reasons we can only speculate on, bungling Biden elected to stay home and sent cackling Kamala.
The bungling Biden junta’s response has been singularly toothless, considering they admit they anticipated Putin’s move.
Now that Hunter Biden isn't on the Burisma board any more, there are probably close to zero US companies and persons with direct trade, finance, or investment in Donetsk and Luhansk.
As it stands right now, Putin has run the table. He can move troops into Donetsk and Luhansk because he has recognized them as autonomous.

If Trump were in office right now, Putin could not do whatever he wants to in Ukraine with little or no opposition from the US.
Trump wouldn't have looked the other way and the entire GOP would have backed him 100%.
Now, with Trump out of the picture, Putin is free to make the decision to do what he was always going to do anyway, but it's going to be less expensive and difficult for him with bungling Biden "opposing" him.
Having bungling Biden as his bitch puppet made all this so much easier for him.
God only knows what all other little plans Putin has cooked up which he wants bungling Biden in place to grease the skids for.
