Lying

I am really perplexed by recent court rulings, ie, Stolen Valour and the right for Fox News to lie.

I guess I think free speech should be limited to truth and that there are consequences for lying!

It is what I always taught my children, you will get double trouble for your lies.

Is there a plausible explanation for these rulings?

Will lying in court be acceptable soon, covered under the right to free speech?

The court cannot criminalize simple lying due to the first Amendment. You could still sue someone civily for lying, if the lie caused you damages.

Just because something is wrong, does not make it illegal or give the government the right to criminalize it.

They can and do criminalize lying under oath, which is lying in court. Perjury.

So, they just wanted to make more work for the courts, job security, got it! Something will have to fill the dockets if marijuana is decriminlialized!

There are two types of lies...

A lie of omission is simply not telling a fact that might be important...like omitting telling someone that you're talking with 20 others...

A lie of commission is when he or she asks you if you're talking with others and you say "No, of course not! You're the only one!"

Which would be the one to upset you the most?

War News for Thursday, June 28, 2012 http://warnewstoday.blogspot.com/
The DoD is reporting a new death previous unreported by the military. Staff Sgt. Matthew J. Leach died from unreported causes in Kandahar, Afghanistan on Tuesday, June 26th.

NATO is reporting the deaths of two ISAF soldiers from an IED attack in an undisclosed location in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, June 27th.
when is the last combat report you've seen from Afpak? When do we leave? *it's not next year*

What countires are we in the middle of civil wars? Libya(done with that one, Libya is in ruins) Yemen (supporting the north drones even"nonsignificant targets -any male withing 40 feet of a drone strike is automatically considered a "militant") Paki -still loathing the west..
Somalia -drones. Closing Gitmo.

The point. all politicians lie, both partys are commited to "perpetual war", as AQ will never be finished.
Anyways -one doesn't rely on US news - it's all garbage, you have to read foreign newspapers, and even the occasional biased site.

Read enough you'll get glimpse of the truth -not "truthiness" -but only a glimpse. mental exercise: Why did Dem's join in on citing Holder for Contempt?

i use "sojourner as my handle here -what is that? it is a seeker of truth( 1 meaning).
The more you know, the more you find out what is reported is superficial glimpses, of someone ELSE's reality.

Find it yourself -you won't find it anywhwere near partisian thought. Not meant to be mean or insulting...just giving a glimpse of whats real.
You have to dig for it just as i do.

If lying were against the law we wouldn't have to worry about FOX.

Or Romney.

the law isn't about foxnews. but poor liberals can't wrap their head around that concept. you cannot create false advertisements etc....the issue is the first amendment. think about, should lying be against the law or should be able to be sued civilly just for lying?

but liberals just froth at the mouth because they see foxnews and wet themselves.

Some of us froth at the mouth and get moist over Anderson Cooper, but he's not on FOX.
