MAGA neighbor just filed his taxes

And rarely have I seen anyone more pissed off. This fella works aircraft and has been putting in 7-20 hours of overtime a week, week after week, for most of the year. Thought he was gonna be rich because "no taxes on overtime", right?

WRONG-O MOOSE BREATH!!

Overtime is time and a half, right?

Turns out you still gotta pay taxes on the "time" just not on the "half".

Silly fucker is beside himself becuase he worked himself into a higher tax bracket and actually owes more than he did last year!!

He is currently ready to burn tRump at the stake, figuratively I would assume, but he is really pissed off, lol.
Bet he wouldn't go back and not do the overtime even knowing that. My bet is he's a lot less pissed off than you think he is.

not working that last bit that puts you into the higher tax bracket is a rational response.

there should be zero taxes up to five million dollars.

oligarchs should pay all taxes.

tax the poor went out of fashion along with Iraq war, neocon shitbox.

Well, the mouth-foaming rant would tend to argue against that. LOL
"mouth-foaming rant" :rofl2:
You are SO full of shit, dude.

Whatever. My refund was more than it was last year, and next year it will be even more yet because I'll be able to deduct $1,000 from my taxable income for my church donations SOLELY because of DONALD TRUMP and the ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL ACT.

VOTE MAGA RED if you want less taxes!
Vote Blue if you want the ever loving shit taxed out of you.

You are so full of shit. [Church] :Yes — church donations were tax‑deductible long before the “One Big Beautiful Bill” and long before the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). U.S. taxpayers have been allowed to deduct charitable contributions to churches for over a century, provided they itemized deductions." nationaltaxreports.com/how-to-claim-a-tax-deduction-for-church-donations/?utm_source=copilot.com

... not as a STANDARD DEDUCTION, numb nuts... That's all because of the OBBB Act (aka Donald Trump).

Right... ITEMIZED deductions, NOT as a STANDARD deduction, which is how the VAST majority of people file their taxes (or have their taxed filed).

That means that most people currently DON'T get to claim their church donations on their taxes (because they aren't itemizing), but now because of Donald Trump and the OBBB they WILL be able to claim them via a standard deduction. (up to $1,000 for single, $2,000 for married)

I don't believe your story, but assuming it's real...

Most people would notice a larger refund due to a rather substantial reduction in their taxable income. Individual circumstances will vary, of course, but generally speaking...

Right.

Correct. I will admit, given how it was marketed, that people could end up (understandably, to an extent) holding too high of expectations about this tax policy, incorrectly expecting "no taxes on the entirety of any overtime hours worked" rather than "no taxes on the premium portion of any overtime hours worked".

However, it's still a tax break for the "working class" and it's still a substantial amount, even if it's 1/3rd of what some people incorrectly thought it would be.

Only the portion of his earnings that are within the next tax bracket are taxed at the higher tax rate. The rest of his earnings are still taxed at the lower tax rate(s).

There's so many different things that affect one's tax return, and I don't know his particular tax situation. All I know is that he'd be paying even MORE in taxes if not for the "no tax on overtime" policy. Also, a "smaller refund" doesn't mean that one "paid more in taxes", and of course one's taxable income is going to increase if one works more hours (and/or makes more money) than the prior year.

It sounds like he's misdirecting his anger (and probably not understanding how his taxes are calculated).

But again, I don't believe your story to begin with.
My accountant told me to prepare for a large increase in our refund amount.

I would support churches being politically active if the paid taxes.

Being the genius you are, you should be aware that most people do not itemize their deductions because they cannot exceed the $15,750 per individual deduction. Bonus points thanks to the BBB, an additioinal $6000/person for three years.
