Manchin isn't going anywhere unless he wants to go somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised to see him switch to independent or the GOP though. He has this awe shucks good people personality and was all up in the Sago Mine disaster. The seat is his as long as he wants it.

The race is slightly odd in that his opponent's numbers trend exactly as his does for the most part since summer--when one is up the other is up, when one is down, the other is down. He has been sitting on a 9.5-10 point lead. I guess his opponents tough in drugs message isn't selling in Methburg, WV He'll be fine.

Demand for coal is up in China and Asia right now. I don't know how long that will last but it's up right now and should stay up for a few years.
They should have pushed Hillary's plan to move them to alternative energy. She was going to re-educate them in the energy of the future. Coal miners have been losing their jobs for generations due to alternative fuels and mechanazation. It will continue. Preparing for the future is a good idea. Hanging on to dwindling jobs by your fingernails is not planning well.
He probably saved his seat by voting to confirm---by representing the attitude of his constituents.

They shouldn't have been stupid enough to believe that shit, coal is not coming back and the history of the coal industry in the region is horrific. Typical colonial wealth extraction scam. Came in took the resources for wealth extraction/concentration/redistribution, fouled the environment and left with the cash.
