Many dead in Florida high school

if you say so BD.. I don't know . we aren't that far apart in age or where we grew up, I can't think of but a few people that owned guns, and they were criminals, or used them because they carried cash ( permitted)

^^^^^^

Read between these lines. It proves my point.

My experience was a bit different. No one was opposed to gun ownership.

And pretty much everyones' Dad had at least a handgun stashed in the top dresser drawer. Access to guns was probably even easier back we were young'uns.

It started when the NRA and the racist right started telling whites to protect themselves from evil Black criminals.

gun sales sky rocketed.

Back in the old socialist democrat KKK days, most Black men armed themselves with at least a pistol ... just in case.

As much as I hate agreeing with you.......you are right.

His post is nonsense. Read between his lines and he's saying exactly what I posted.

Interesting info if accurate:

""But the rise in sales masks a fact about guns in America: gun ownership is on the decline and has been for more than 20 years. Gun ownership was at its highest in the 1970s, when a reported 47 percent of Americans owned a firearm. But that number has declined until the most recent statistics from 2014, which suggest between 31 and 34 percent of Americans now have a firearm in their home.""

and were much harder for them to purchase

most guns stores were white owned

most would not sell to a black man

Mott wrote the same thing, that people he went to school with had guns in their trucks etc. It was a common thing.

Blacks couldn't own guns. We weren't even considered humans when the 2nd amendment was written.

Once we gained some rights, Reagan took our gun rights away and to this day we get shot dead for having a gun.

Reagan made it illegal to open carry in public. So on one hand you want to ban guns but you claim not being able to open carry is taking gun rights away? Can you find two further extremes?

yes Reagan as governor if Cali ended Open carry in Cali when the black panthers started open carrying to protect themselves from the police

but it also made it illegal for the idiot right wing assholes who lived in cali back then too

thank the powers that be they moved out of cali in huge numbers since

Why is it always the critics who have to come up with the solutions? No matter what we say the pro-gunners will always default to the 2nd amendment to end the conversation.

Too right you are.
As if the rightwing actually has any genuine interest in stopping schools from being shot up every other week.

If you skim this board, you will see the rightwing pouting and getting outraged about a lot of things: usually involving food stamps, Obamacare, Medicare, the EPA, etc.

You know what I have never seen - at least in any measureable way? The Rightwing showing any genuine concern and shock over American school children being continuously gunned down, blown away in large numbers.

Reagan banned open carry for all Ca citizens, IIRC.

Yes, Black slaves were chattel, Free Blacks were not. And as Frederick Douglas declared, ... The Constitution is not a Slave Document.

Absolutely. Within two weeks after Obama was elected in 2008, gun and ammo shelves in Alaska were empty. And it wasn't the only place.

Oddly enough, not a single lawful weapon was confiscated during his terms.

If gun ownership, as a percentage of the population, was at its peak in the '70's and the NRA at the time was nowhere near the organization that it is today how did they convince half our country (all racists) that they needed guns?

I'm through discussing your (group your) heinous attitude toward guns and mass murder. As far as I'm concerned, you (group you) gunhumpers can take your guns and shove them up your asses, and pull the triggers with your toes.

Reagan, the target of a would-be assassin two years earlier, saluted the NRA and promised to “never disarm any American who seeks to protect his or her family from fear and harm.”

Right wing assholes were considered law abiding citizens.......just like they are today.

It's the code name they used for white citizens.

Ok. That's the '80's. Why was gun ownership highest in the '70's?
