OAK BLUFFS, Mass. – At least one person on this oasis of leftist elites blames federal officials for the illegal immigration crisis that thrust Martha’s Vineyard into the national spotlight.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent 50 migrants by plane Wednesday to the Massachusetts island, which boasts one of the wealthiest and most hard-left voting blocs in the nation.

"I think it was a political stunt," Paul Sinclair of Rhode Island told Fox News Digital on Saturday, as he sold T-shirts and surf gear during a street festival on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs, one of the commercial hubs of Martha’s Vineyard.

"But like any problem if you want to fix a problem make it visible. And I think (the problem) was made visible."

The phrase "political stunt" has been used on the island and elsewhere in leftist political circles to criticize DeSantis.

There is a process and it does not involve swimming across the Rio Grande river and entering illegally.

When the Republicans take Congress, illegals will be arrested and deported.

It is the law.

I think I read that all of the migrants that were flown up to Martha's Vineyard entered legally.

Not true?

Not true.

They came from Venezuela and crossed out borders illegally.

There is a process and a place to apply for citizenship and it isn’t in the middle of the Rio Grande River.

My understanding is that they came in legally.

Your understanding is wrong.

They presented themselves to border officials and requested asylum/refugee status. They were given a date to appear at a hearing to determine if they are eligible for that status. Some are detained in facilities and others are allowed to enter the country. Most have a sponsor and go to that location until their hearing. A majority appear for their hearing. If not, they are deported.

To correct this situation we need to change the laws on asylum/refugees. There is no "open border." 20,000 border patrol agents with their electronic surveillance equipment continue to police the border as they always have. The increased number refers to "apprehensions." The peak was in 2019 and then a reduction during the pandemic and an increase in 2021-22.

No, they didn't. They entered illegally, and under Biden he ignored that and let them apply for asylum anyway. There likely was little or no screening of them outside that, and they likely were simply moved to Florida without any processing beyond a piece of paper asking them to appear at an immigration court sometime in the future. In any case, they are in the country illegally and awaiting trial for that.

Awaiting trial for what? If they are in the country illegally they can be deported. If they applied for asylum they are waiting their hearing. There is no trial for being in the country illegally.

When you present yourself to the border patrol and request asylum that is the proper procedure.

Post a link showing that presented themselves to border officials.

Most of the illegals cross illegally and then ask for asylum.

There are 2+million more illegals in America since Biden took office.

The borders are wide open.

Tens of thousands of Brazilians and Venezuelans illegally cross US-Mexico border

ens of thousands of migrants from South America have flown into Mexico and crossed into a remote part of Arizona since late summer, as word spreads far beyond Central America that the United States's southern border is penetrable, according to two people familiar with the change in migration trends.

More than 7,000 Brazilians and Venezuelans were encountered illegally crossing the border near Yuma in August, an unusually high number of people to come from countries outside the usual El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico, whose citizens most often flee to the U.S.

What border enforcement has been reduced or stopped to make them more "open" than under Bush, Obama, or Trump?

They are such morons. If Biden were enforcing our laws and following that process, we wouldn't have over 2 million illegals wandering about the countryside. :palm:

They really are the dumbest people on the planet, as exemplified by their President and his VP.

WRONG and stupid. They did not "present" themselves at a LEGAL border crossing. They crossed ILLEGALLY dipshit. I am amused that dipshits like you think your smart. Irony.

Correction; 2 million so far this fiscal year. And we still have two weeks to go.

What border enforcement has been reduced or stopped to make them more "open" than under Bush, Obama, or Trump?

Just stop, you dumb hack.

Border Patrol agents have encountered a record number of 1,853,837 migrants since October, according to internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection data exclusively obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The illegal border crossings, which occurred between Oct. 1, 2021, and Aug. 6 2022, already exceed the 1,662,422 Border Patrol encountered in fiscal year 2021, which was already a record high for the force, according to the internal data.

In May 2019, nearly 150,000 people illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border were apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Last month, that number had been reduced to about 30,000. Who should get the credit?
