They wear them during surgeries to keep a sterile procedure sterile (in case an inadvertent cough/sneeze would contaminate the surgical site). They also help to keep blood off of oneself.

That guy was suggesting that I claim masks don't work, lol. My stance is that masks and respirators really do work, but only for what they were designed for. I do claim that improper ppe for use with hazmat does not work.
