Sarah Palin could win the Republican nomination and defeat President Obama, Sen. John McCain said Sunday as his former vice presidential running mate fueled 2012 speculation by appearing at the annual Memorial Day rally on the National Mall.

"Of course she can, she can. Whether she will or not, whether she'll even run, I don't know," McCain, R-Ariz., told "Fox News Sunday." "She certainly is a major factor. And I believe that she can be very competitive."

Remind me. Didn't he think he could beat Obama himself a few years back?

How'd that turn out?

comparing mccain to palin is pretty dumb. mccain had a much stronger chance of winning than palin ever did.

palin now, has star power, but in real political terms, she has nothing on mccain in 08'. mccain never quit, mccain never rolled his eyes at someone when they said their profession is a teacher.

obama is going to win '12. though i am sure we have our differences why.

Romney is the only candidate in the Republican field who doesn't consistently finish in the double digits behind Obama in a two-way poll. Palin finishes at Goldwater levels in such polls, usually barely doing better than the unkowns like Herman Cain, sometimes she actually does worse. This is especially bad for her because she's a well known candidate and has little room to grow.

If Romney wins the nomination, I'd put it at around 60-40 that Obama wins. Giuliani is currently polling well, but he will probably fuck things up as soon as he starts opening his mouth again.

The thing about predicting elections, though, is that everything always changes. The Democrats thought they had a shot in 1984 after winning 270 seats in the 1982 midterms. That didn't pan out well for them.

Way more entertaining with plain in. Though she'd be terrible for high gas prices I love so much.

i think you're right about romney/obama stats....it could be closer to even....but at this point, obama wins. unless romney can get out of his shell and people can get over his faith....he has a good chance. but, most people don't like or trust mormons.

Romney has no common sense, something I want in a president. He ran against Kennedy for senate in'92, a seat he couldn't possibly win. He ran for president in '08, Teddy Roosevelt couldn't have won that race after what the neocons did to the country under Cheney. Romney is a fool with no sense of place. He would be a good executive, but a total fail as a politician.
