And the target of the impeachment (Trump) won't even be there to get removed from office. So there is that. Any impeachment trial after Trump is already gone will be pure political theater. Catnip for the Left. Annoying/irritating to the Right.
If the judicial system wants to file charges against "citizen trump" then they should do so. Am all for it. Make the case, file the charges, and have it out in court. That's the way things are supposed to work.
If the only point of this proposed "after he's gone" impeachment is to make sure Trump can't run for office in the future then the Congress can just make a rule/law that convicted felons can't run for president...and then convict him of a felony.
It's all political showboating.

You are wrong. A conviction can deny Trump a pension and possibility of holding public office again. Huge stakes.
Have no idea if impeaching a president (ex-president?) after he has left office is constitutional.
But it does seem sort of ridiculous.

Why Trump Can Be Convicted Even as an Ex-President
Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution provides that the “President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
But Article I, Section 3 says more. In describing the powers of the Senate to conduct an impeachment trial, it provides that “Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States” (emphasis added).

According to an Atlantic article, Ruddy is also a close friend of Donald Trump. In review, Newsmax has a category on their sidebar called Around the Web, which is nothing more than deceptive advertising that looks like news links and leads to fake pseudo-science information and products. For example: “Suffer with Low Energy, Weight Gain & Fatigue”, which leads to a new website promoting products. In another category called Specials, they publish news with sensational headlines such as: “Nobel Prize-Winning Discovery Makes Your Cells Nearly “Immortal” SPECIAL: New way to grow biologically younger,“ which again leads to an advertisement.
When reporting real news, Newsmax uses minimally loaded words in their headlines and articles such as “NYT: Growing Puerto Rican Population Could Offset GOP Cubans” and moderately loaded: “FEMA’s Long: No Time For San Juan Mayor’s ‘Political Noise’. It does not state that the trial can or cannot happen after leaving office. It does say that the power to decide is limited to the House. The House has made its decision, and there is no appeal.
Impeachment is an exception to Bills of Attainder, because there is no criminal punishment involved.
