Medicare for All: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Americans apparently enjoy being looted by healthcare companies. We get terrible care for high prices or often none at all. We are all an accident or illness short of a disaster. Our system is simply wrong.

Simply create a Medicare buy-in for those who want it while leaving private plans alone.

Raise Medicare taxes .5% and SS to 1,000,000 per individual, and all of the health care issues will go away.

Why aren't those contributing at say a 4x higher amount not getting 4x the distribution with SS?

Do those that do not want to participate in the buy-in not pay that extra .5% and get back everything they've paid in so far?

I'd be good with Medicare for All who want it. The private companies would lose so much money, they'd die out on their own.

The private plans are not being threatened except by Bernie's rhetoric. Private plans suck like the system does and are not guaranteed. Unions are one contract away from losing theirs.
Bernie is not selling Medicare for all. That is the label and it is a bad one. it will not have the 20 percent kick in Medicare has now. It will not take the 100 bucks a month plus it costs to seniors now. It will include dental and optical.
It is much better than Medicare.

Yep, was a good clip but I think ppl need the option plan.....

Kinda like being on the sinking ship & those w/ life jackets hopping in the life boats not seeing a problem w/ the ship going down, afterall, those good folks was gonna die sooner or later anyways.. :dunno:

Why do they need an option if the healthcare system covers everything? Do they want to pay for a policy that covers less?

I have all those things that leftists are trying to sell me when pushing Medicare for All. I haven't seen anything that will benefit me more than I currently have.

The guy ^ lives in a gated village in Florida, I'm even going to bet the Villages, which means he is collecting Medicare living in a surreal world watching "Fox and Friends" every morning, he wouldn't know anything better until one of his demogogues told him it was better

^The guy claims I live somewhere yet doesn't have the guts to show up and look me in the eye.

^N-Lover that thought Obama was qualified due solely to skin color.

Not old enough to collect Medicare or SS. So much for your claims, coward.

But John explained why that isn't a great thing either as it cuts keeps the insurance industry profitable while pushing all the major costs on the Fed.

SBS wouldn't care. He's already said he'd be glad to pay more to the Fed is it meant people getting care. I explained to him that it could happen without the Feds involved and all he had to do was personally pay bills for those folks.

What I'm hoping for is that so many people leave their private insurance, that all those companies go under. Now until that happens, it might cost the federal government some money, unless they refuse to pick up the difference. Hopefully, they will refuse that, while also encouraging people to make the switch.

Maybe, but the point is the private insurance will try to push off the most costly clients while keeping the least costly. That's how they profit in general - that's why Obamacare is a partial failure.
