Members of Congress Head for the Exits, Many Citing Dysfunction

Anyone remember 1996? 50 incumbent representatives retired that year. They didn't run for another office they retired. 29 Democrats, 21 Republicans. The republicans got a net gain of 6 seats out of that one. They almost passed a Constitutional Amendment to balance the budget in the 105th Congress, one vote... one vote away...

That was the year the checking debacle happened where we found out that many congresscritters wrote bad checks constantly... Pat Schroeder must have been one, she retired that year...

Santos isn't 'heading' anywhere voluntarily.

I believe after two consecutive terms, they get the full pension and bennies.

From there, many take high paying no show jobs that were promised by lobbyists.

Sure, but the people who leave because Congress is somewhere on the scale of corrupt and straight up fraud now are not interested in that.

When 19 Dems and 11 Reps choose to leave the house it is not a "mostly republican" thing. This does count the 11 congresscritters that are vying for Senate Seats instead, but that's still 30 folks leaving, about 2/3 that are leaving are Democrats.

I can't rightly blame them, as we've seen death threats against anyone who is vocal about being "anti-Maga".

The toxic dysfunction of Congress is 100% on the framers and the fucked up form of government that they created.

Using the word "democracy" to include all the variations of same,
ours is the oldest that that has been continually operating,
and Mother of Christ,
it certainly looks it.

People on both principal sides revere the Constitution
and thus America's downward spiral
will not be interrupted.

It will just start spiraling faster.

I think you are arguing to the absurd... Nobody at all said that nobody but Brandon has ever gaffed.... what I did say however is decidedly more clear than that, I spent time providing examples, and the clear consistency of it all, speech after speech after speech the man can barely make a public appearance without doing it again... Let's see if I can make it clear to you, even though you are a Super Democrat who will still vote for him even when you know he has no functioning brain at all (like a republican voting for Trump)...

I think that you would be hard pressed to find one meeting where Clinton was whispering to his crotch in front of any world leader because he couldn't look up from his script without forgetting what he was saying. Shoot, even Trump didn't read crotch notes, though he was still Trump and would just vomit whatever was on the top of his head into whatever nearby microphone existed even he didn't have to be the Crotch Whisperer...

It's all good, Super Democrats will vote for him even though his brain hasn't functioned for longer than is comfortable. I get that. However, only Super Democrats will as they still do not have a response that has worked to assuage the worries of the American people. Just keep on pretending that you just can't spot what folks are talking about while doing your best impression of Arnold Jackson on Diff'rent Strokes, it's doing wonders and helping Trump... so much so that he beats Biden in 5 key swing states now {and in the averages for Electoral College votes even)... More of the same is not going to get you a victory, you have to do better than this because this isn't about what I think of Brandon (for whom I would never vote), this is about what the swing voters are thinking about Brandon, and it isn't good.

As I noted, nearly all the claims you are leveling against Biden can easily be ping ponged employing left leaning sites against Trump or nearly any other politician, especially those with a long history of being in the public spotlight. And Biden has always said what was on his mind, as it has gotten him in trouble going back to he was even a Senator

Is Biden showing his age, of course he is, as are most of the senior political figures, but is it at a stage that questions his ability to lead the nation, no, especially considering the alternative

And it is interesting how world leaders, even today with Netanyahu in the current crisis, plus top level Republicans who deal with Biden frequently, never seem to imply that Biden is feeble minded or off as obviously the sources you favor emphasize. We heard the same criticism going into 2020, in particularly the 2020 debates, and it wasn’t Biden who emerged from those debates as lacking

Government is fixing to shut down because a GOP House can’t get their act together and consider playing brinkmanship with the nation’s economy an acceptable path to appease their MaraLago handlers

Poor anchovies, shut er' down, she's pumping mud.
