Families should not be required to inform schools that the family owns firearms.
Parents should be able to purchase firearms for their kids over the age of, say, twelve.
And if the kids fuck up, parents should THEN be incarcerated for it,

A car accident is generally an unforeseeable 'accident' and if there is proof the person was a threat to use the car to kill, and the parents gave him the keys anyway, then yes, charge them.
In this case the parents knew the kid was a suicidal nutjob and there answer was to buy him a guy and give him unsecured access to it.

They were. Lots of you gun nuts brag about teaching your kids to shoot and claim you are being safe with guns. The family in Columbine did not expect their kids to mass shoot in a school. They just had lots of guns in their homes and kids who were growing up badly.
Many argue that a gun is worthless if it is not readily available if a motorcycle gang breaks in and attempts to kill the family. That is why guns are sitting around or in easily accessed drawers.
If your gun is never used illegally, you can claim you are a responsible gun owner.
