'Protecting your home from four thugs with too much force'?

4 on 1... sorry, but the four don't get to cry when they lose to the one. Don't want to get your ass kicked/killed? for starters don't break into someones home...

They're lucky they didn't die. Which is kinda sad actually, because if they did then this wouldn't even go to trial.

If there are charges then something else would have had to been going on, like a drug deal gone bad or something like that. To state the obvious, we don't have all the information.

What I'm curious about is how did he kill the one invader?
 
The MMA fighter should be taken out back and given a good tap in the back of the head with a 44 magnum, then his body should be left out to rot. All those who attempt to bury him should share his fate, there should be a sniper posted around it 24/7. The hero's should all have statutes built in their honor and placed in the town center, and they and every one of their family members should be given a medal of honor and a lifetime pension.

manslaughter
They will try to prove the defendant used excessive force after the perp was already incapacitated

That'll be hard to prove. No way to tell if the perp was still armed when he was attacked.

And...you have to find a jury that will convict.
