My roommate's former friend was going through a divorce when I met him. A product of choosing to be in an open marriage. Now they are no longer friends, because he and his wife were constantly dragging my roommate into the middle of their war, and then yelling at him about it. He couldn't take it anymore. But, yeah, they are rare, and they tend not to work.
