I have firearms myself, but a lot of us don't have the common sense or the maturity to possess and know when to use them, case in point, florida 17 year old shot and killed by neighborhood watch, parents sue?!

Legislatures in a dozen states are considering laws that would eliminate requirements that residents obtain permits to carry concealed weapons.

States that have been or are considering bills in current legislative sessions include Colorado, Iowa, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota and Virgina.

I'm really hoping Texas will be one of those in 2013.

And your solution is...........................................what?

as i have posted before, utilize the national database of people unfit properly and require the use of it at gun shows

also, require proper training for those that want to carry a gun, including awareness of gun laws

as i have posted before, utilize the national database of people unfit properly and require the use of it at gun shows
There is already a system in place to buy a gun from a dealer at a gun show. It's called NICS.

also, require proper training for those that want to carry a gun, including awareness of gun laws
i'd like to see this gun law awareness training be delivered to cops and city councils first.

The Second Amendment requires no permits or training, as far as I know. Therefore any citizen can acquire any firearm they desire, right?

Then you have proof that such things would have resulted in the incidents you posted, from not occuring?

cops already get more firearm training than required by carry permits

as for city councils, why

at some point in life, the anti freedom types are going to have to wake up and realize that there's only one way to get guns out of the hands of the law abiding citizen, and that's to prohibit them all. I, for one, hope they make that push. It will give us the excuse to remake this country back to the way it's supposed to be.

cite? because 95% of the gun carriers I deal with go to the range every other week, participate in competitions, and own several firearms that they all know how to operate and maintain.

as for city councils, why
I can't tell you the number of stories I see about cops stopping people with guns that were not breaking any laws at all, and then when the gun carriers attempt to explain the law correctly to the officers, the cops get all uppity thinking that because they are cops, they know the law. They obviously don't, but then when the gun carriers who have been unlawfully arrested or cited sue the cops and city council, the council backs the cops because THEY didn't know the law either. So they settle out of court, costing the taxpayers extra money and then fail to train the cops in the law, so the circle continues endlessly.

If you're comfortable having your city settle lawsuits for wrongful violations of citizens rights, to the tune of millions a year, good on you. when i'm arrested in your city, tell your council to settle for a million so you can keep your illusion of safety.

Anyone who is a dealer is required to use the NICS system. People who are NOT dealers are legally PROHIBITED for using that system.

also, require proper training for those that want to carry a gun, including awareness of gun laws
So you would hamper poor people, who are less likely to be able to AFFORD said training, or be immigrants and not fully know the language, ability to exercise their rights?

while i appreciate your experiences, i would still like citations or links for your facts

how other could i or others debate you

as you know i own firearms and have taught my children how to shoot and manage firearms, still i prefer a formal style of debate

ps assuming your statements are correct, i would agree that police and city councils need better training

however, as you know, i live in ca and firearm regulations are still quite stringentthe

and the county that i live in does not permit many ccw permits so the city and county governments rarely have such a problem to deal with

however, we have had the odd law enforcement officer problems

yes, ignorance of the law is no excuse and lack of proper training is even less of an excuse

would you want a firearm with the power of life or death in the hands of an ignorant or untrained person

Better offer free training in multiple languages, year round. Because otherwise it's denying people their rights unnecessarily.

And I don't base laws on my own emotion. What I would call trained or untrained is irrelevent. What is the standard? It's a ambiguous word.
And as far as training on the laws go, judges who decide court cases rarely know the laws, how could you possibly expect around 100,000,000 people to learn them? What if the law changes? If they move to another state?

if they can afford a firearm, then they can afford to be trained

as for multiple languages, if the do not speak english, then how are they going to be able to shout a warning

however, if you are still concerned, esl classes are usually available for little or no cost and perhaps federal and state programs could be funded to ensure uniformity of training

if they can afford a firearm, then they can afford to be trained
At best it would increase the total cost 2.5x. AT BEST. And of course we have places like D.C. and Chicago that already require such things, and naturally, they are the safest in the nation.

So they have to learn a language to exercise their rights as human beings? They don't to travel, vote, have a trial, or any other right. Why this one?
