Easy to get discouraged these days, Maze. With the low-life types running this administration, even the most optimistic among us can flounder.
We may, indeed, be finished...or at least the beginning of the start of the end may be happening. But, there may be enough on our side to save the Republic. The next few national elections will tell u)s about which is more likely.
I hope they show that the fascists (or fascist wanna-bes) are still the minority. It would be a shame if our generation becomes known to history as the one that lost it.

the government does lie. it has been given judicial approval to do so. government power corrupts absolutely, so in order to obtain any objective they want, they will lie. It's been done for over a century and by both parties

They don't like the shutdown and blame both parties equally.
Meanwhile, they don't have one fucking idea about what the two sides are arguing.

America's lack of commitment to public education has resulted in an uniformed voter base,
and an uninformed voter base is destroying the republic.
You can't get a Trump with an educated electorate.
The American dream isn't dying a natural death.
Our failure to evolve into a modern, 3rd Millennium Democracy is killing it.

Okay, so if the American dream is one of great opportunity for success and upward mobility, what killed that?
Well, old man, the far left Democrats were not lacking in commitment to public education when they sent trans-freaks' shows to kindergartens.
Optimism has been a failed strategy over our lifetimes.
The far left Democratic/Socialist/Communist loons have tried to kill the American dream but our great president (with 77.3 million popular votes and 312 electoral votes) has saved the American dream.
We continue to add about a trillion in debt every 100 days....as we continue to lose manufacturing jobs....nothing of importance has changed.
The government, at least the politicians, has always lied. It’s merely a matter of what. This administration takes lying and misinformation to a new level in order to justify the weaponization of their institutions.
We are a nation in decline and Trump is accelerating it.
Started with Reagan and the death of the middle class.
Only for the 1%. The middle class is dying, manufacturing isn’t returning, prices increasing, and millions to build detention centers to house misdemeanors, loss of civil liberties.

People want to not be stressed with concerns about food, shelter, clothing, and health--
hopefully education and the opportunity to be productive as well--
and most of us want to share all of that with pleasant company, be it family and/or friends,
in a tranquil environment.
The present criminal administration deliberately tries to limit realization of that dream
to a privileged class of descendants of white people from the northern part of Western Europe.
The goal is to kill the idea of everyone striving to achieve this dream
so that the pain in the ass classes of people don't get in their way
while trying themselves to share in the prosperity.
Ironically, the criminal and shockingly unpatriotic but nationalist administration
is actually smothering that prosperity
while trying to preserve it for the "right people."
