n Tuesday, August 15, Hawaii's governor, Josh Green told several media outlets including CNBC that the Hawaii state government is looking to acquire the land in the western part of the devastated island, especially the historic town of Lahaina.
"I'm already thinking of ways for the state to acquire that land so that we can put it into workforce housing, to put it back into families."

THEY KNOW WHATS BEST FOR YOUR LAND
Hey Dick Head!
Josh Green said the state government in Hawaii would consider ways to acquire land on Maui "to protect it for our local people so it's not stolen" by people from the mainland United States. The governor's office initially addressed concerns on Monday about real estate scams targeting Maui residents who own fire-damaged properties on the island, saying, "Residents are being approached about selling fire-damaged home sites, by people posing as real estate agents who may have ill intent."
I think these people are in shock from the sheer devastation of the killer fire that scorched the entire area to the ground, and most people lost everything, some including their grandparents and other family members.
Some people have reported that the Real Estate and other land investment Buzzards are already swirling above the disaster, trying to buy themselves some bargains while it is in distress!
But, I also believe this is getting blown out of proportion by the media. And, the government may be over-reacting a bit.
This entire region is not the tropical paradise it once was. It has been becoming more of a desert, here of late, due to the severe drought and other severe weather events like hurricanes that have caused flooding and erosion. No one is even farming the land in this region for many years. The fires were started due to power lines snapping or trees falling over them causing them to snap due to the high winds of the tropical storms that passed over them.
The firefighters had no water to put out the fires because the electricity to the pumps were down. And then they even had problems sending out emergency warnings because of the electrical outages and cell tower failures.
So, the place was an infrastructure nightmare to begin with, just waiting for a disaster to happen.
I just don't see a mad dash of carpet baggers showing up to buy up this SHITHOLE by the masses that everybody seems to be so overly concerned about.
I think we are talking about an over-reaction, a misconception, and a lot of priorities way out of wack.
But in their defense, these poor people are suffering great losses right now, and they haven't even found all of their dead yet.
Perhaps a 45 day moratorium on the sale of real estate is in order, if they are so concerned about this!
That should give everyone there time to grieve their losses and make up their minds if they want to rebuild or just get the fuck out of that shithole altogether!
