Most Trusted News Source

Many here have probably read where I have stated that we simply cannot know the actual truth of what is going on in the news, and therefore we can only triangulate the "most likely" truth from multiple sources. No media source is trustworthy anymore, since the have their own biased agenda that favors either a financial bias or an ideology bias. I maintain that the best way to triangulate the "most likely" truth is to study as many different news sources as possible, and to make sure to cover a broad range that covers the most extreme left that you can find, all the way to the most extreme right sources you can find.

Read, listen or watch as many different sources as you can find, but do not trust any of them. Often, the most dangerous ones I encounter are the ones that I trust the most. Because of confirmation bias phenomenon, your most trusted media sources have a better chance of getting propaganda past you. The media industry makes lots of money selling food, propaganda, make up, and shit to people, and they know exactly how to capitalize on confirmation bias. They will absolutely capitalize on it. My favorite personalities at Fox News will do it just as readily as my opponents at MSNBC will to their base.

Don't trust any of them, and keep an extra sharp watch on the news that you trust the most.

SPOT ON.

I analyze a breathtaking amount of news from all political positions, and one of my favorite things to do is to isolate the news that does not get reported from either side, especially when it is from the most popular sources. I see Maddow and Lemon report on stuff that Hannity won't touch, and vice versa, but this is pretty typical. It gets more interesting though, when neither of them report on something. Obviously, neither will report on more far out shit that I see at Daily Kos and Rumor Mill or InfoWars, but some of the far out shit eventually works its way closer to being mainstream. The stuff that floats up to being mainstream usually ends up getting reported on, but there are still a lot of legit stories that don't.

Read all trust none.

You read several and put together an intelligent response. I get 4 or 5 emails from right-wing sources every day. One of the most annoying things about them is they are trying to sell things. Of course their over the top screaming headlines is another annoyance. But I grind through them . I also read some left wing and neutral sources.

This is going to shock you, but I agree wholeheartedly with you. Never trust one single source of news.

This is an excellent post! Thank you for that.

So, which one is the "most trusted" as your title refers to. Or is it none are to be trusted? Or all are to be trusted?

Typically the NYT and PBS are the best. Foreign Affairs is very good too. The New Yorker and Rolling Stone have good articles on economics and policy. I read the ACLU blog and Ralph Nader too.Just compare them to Tea Party or right-wing sites to see the difference,

These are good sources of media and propaganda if one balances them with opposing view media. None of these sources should be trusted, they should only be used to research the bigger picture.

Propaganda? not really.

I am not aware of any media sources who deserve to be defended like this. I cannot stop you from seeking out news that satisfies your confirmation bias, and then trusting it. I strongly recommend consuming ALL of it, and trusting NONE of it.

Sorry to disagree. It sounds like you are just repeating the mantra of Trump in that the media is the "enemy of the people".

I think anyone who trusts any news source is a bit simple, really, but what we should do is find out which are least likely to be lying, when. Tony Cliff of the International Socialists (as they then were) used to tell us that the best source for economic developments was the Financial Times, because capitalists seldom tell lies about their real interests, and for similar reasons I find bits of the Economist to be worth looking at. By and large, with all the rest, the trick is to find out what their interests are and see if there is anything there that isn't just to serve them. You don't find much, but get some sense of how the world is moving for the scoundrels - attacks on two big oil producers are in the wind, for instance. The Lie-Machine is more and more part of the system, unfortunately, and its practitioners need to spread at least fifteen lies before breakfast!

I do not know of any lefties on this forum who are willing to let ME shape their perception of the political landscape, and I am not willing to have any lefties shape mine. We are all free to form our own opinions, which we do, and this is why our most trusted media sources are the most dangerous. None of us want to have our perception of the political landscape engineered by the media, we want to form our own independent perception. When we begin to trust ANY media source, we begin surrendering our independent thought to them as well. We shouldn't agree with the media just because their political stance is aligned with our own, but we should definitely hear what they have to say and compare it to what the opposition has to say. Our opposition media sources will be presenting the political landscape differently than the sources we are aligned with do, so we need to hear what the opposition has to say from their point of view if we are to maintain independent thought.

MSNBC has been spot on for years now

there was a time they were scoffed at by all the others ( during Bush term) then it turned out they were the only ones reporting the evil that Bush and Cheney actually did

They talked of the economic problems Bush was ignoring and guess what?

the whole world ended up having to admit what they reported was true and predictive of what went down

I use a news site called firstheadlines

it gives me the headlines from EVERYONE

I read them all as much as possible

Half of what Fox writes about is crimes

they love to report ANY SCRAP of black crime they can find as if its national news

Fox works with the Russians

they reported the Russian fake news stories as if they were fact

it gives me the headlines from EVERYONE

I am certainly not against news sources that provide headlines from everyone, and I have a few news sources that do the same thing. I still read everything, but I keep in mind that I am reading "everything" from a single political perspective or bias. All in one media sources can't give me the same perspective as I can get by seeing what my opponents have to say from THEIR biased position. Sure, my opponents are biased, but that is exactly why I am attracted to them. I already know how righties think about things, so I pursue lefty media to get what I need to form my OWN opinion. The righty media and all in one media sources tell me what my opinion should be, but that is not good enough for me to have independent thought.
