Not just liberals -- all of us would be better off if, rather than relying so heavily on automation and outsourcing to keep things cheap, we had a supply of lower-skilled labor close to home. Since liberals are disproportionately likely to live in cities, the lawn-mowing bit would be more of an advantage to conservatives, but I'm thinking more in terms of things like low-skill elder-care, child-care, and home-health-care services. It's a win-win-win, in that US citizens wind up with a higher quality of life, the immigrants have an opportunity to live in a relatively secure situation and build a brighter future for their kids, and the source countries get a respite from resource strains as well as a source of some hard currency.

Of course, to make that terrific future a reality, we need to move past right-wing xenophobia. They're so intent on thinking of brown people as sub-human, that the notion we might actually be better off with more of them here is a completely alien concept to them.

You are a bit confused here on this. Cheap labor is basically slave labor. That needs government support. If you are going to bring them in, pay them union wages and benefits. You know, pay for the real cost of things.
