He bashes President Obama as a European-style socialist and preaches fiscal conservatism.


Yet in the Senate, he made sure dollars from the socialistic Medicare program went to Puerto Rico on behalf of a hometown firm — Universal Health Services — that later gave him nearly $400,000 in director’s fees and stock options.


He was among the pay-for-play Republicans who tried to strong-arm lobbyists and say that if you wanted to have influence you had to cough up campaign money.


While Karen Santorum was home-schooling their seven children in Virginia, Santorum soaked the Pennsylvania taxpayers to the tune of $100,000 by enrolling the children in a Pennsylvania cyber charter school.

Ron Paul dinged rival Rick Santorum Monday for being a "very liberal" candidate, saying the former Pennsylvania senator and staunch social conservative voted for too much spending during his time in Congress.

Speaking to CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash before a campaign event with his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, the White House hopeful said his rival had taken positions counter to true conservative ideals.

Ron Paul debuted a new ad Friday calling Rick Santorum "another serial hypocrite," escalating an increasingly bruising fight between the Texas congressman and the former Pennsylvania senator.

"America's challenges are too great. Don't be fooled, Rick Santorum has a record of betrayal. Another serial hypocrite who can't be trusted," the narrator says.







The ad criticizes Santorum's votes to raise the debt ceiling, questions his opposition to the Right to Work Act, and suggests that he was "one of the most corrupt members in Congress."

The ad also compares Santorum to Newt Gingrich, insinuating that Paul's campaign would "expose" his record in a similar way to how it exposed Gingrich.

The former House Speaker blamed attack ads funded by Paul — and supporters of Mitt Romney — for dooming his once-leading Iowa campaign.

When asked about the comments in an interview with "CBS Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley, Santorum said he wasn't aware of the context of his remark, but mentioned that he had recently watched the movie "Waiting for Superman," which analyzes the American public education system through the stories of several students and their families. (The students and their families portrayed in the movie represent several races.)

"I've seen that quote, I haven't seen the context in which that was made," Santorum told Pelley, of the Sunday remarks. "Yesterday I talked for example about a movie called, um, what was it? 'Waiting for Superman,' which was about black children and so I don't know whether it was in response and I was talking about that."
