Attorneys for former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor plan to ask the court for a lenient sentence — no prison time, or if that's not granted, less time than what sentencing guidelines call for.

Noor was convicted of murder and manslaughter last month in the death of 911 caller Justine Ruszczyk. He faces a presumptive sentence of about 12.5 years in prison.

Al-Aqsa: Palestinians killed as Jerusalem protests rage

Clashes continue to rage between Israeli forces and Palestinian demonstrators across occupied territories.

At least three Palestinians have been killed, according to local media, and hundreds more injured amid mass protests over new Israeli security measures at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

In the first incident, an Israeli settler killed an 18-year-old Palestinian man in the Ras al-Amud neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The death of Muhamd Mahmoud Sahraf was confirmed by Israeli security and the Red Crescent.

A second Palestinian was also confirmed killed by live fire during the demonstrations that followed Friday prayers, officials at a hospital in Jerusalem told AP news agency.

OPINION: Palestinians have a legal right to armed struggle
The Palestinian Authority also reported that a third man was killed during clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank.

The photograph is irrelevant. Lawyers try to get the lightest sentence.

Protesters shot as Sudan military tries to clear Khartoum sit-in

At least five killed in ongoing military raid on Khartoum sit-in site, as protesters continue to demand civilian rule.

Heavy gunfire has been heard in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, as security forces forcefully moved in to clear a protest camp that has been the central point in the demonstrators' months-long struggle for civilian rule.

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, a medical group linked to protesters, said at least five people were killed and several wounded in the Monday morning raid, which was still in progress. The committee also said security forces used live ammunition inside East Nile Hospital in Khartoum where some of the wounded were been treated.

Demonstrations outside the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy demand the sacking of three Muslim politicians

Colombo, Sri Lanka - All of Sri Lanka's Muslim ministers and their deputies have resigned from their portfolios after accusing the government of failing to guarantee the security of the nation's minority Muslim community amid fears of attacks following the Easter suicide bombings.

The decision comes after hardline Buddhist monks, including firebrand monk Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, set a deadline to the government to fire Muslim provincial governors and a minister.

Gnanasara, who has long been accused of instigating hate crimes against Muslims, was released from jail on a presidential pardon last month.
