Nope I have assisted with the implantation of many pace makers. Typically pacemaker implantation requires patient sedation. And I have given anesthesia for planned implantable defibrillator discharges. Implanted defibrillators have to be charged and discharged periodically to evaluate their lifespan and determine if they need replacement. Patients require a brief anesthetic for the procedure for obvious reasons.
