Just curious, but what exactly do you think the thread OP was about?
 
The horrors of violence upon other humans for war, racism, simple murder or massacres.
And by inflection how our society is becoming deadened to the effects of violence.
Our media promotes violence against humans instead of discouraging it.

Our media is not publicizing it like they used to.

Visual images and the effects they have on people and how the media buffers us from the violence that surrounds us. It offends people, but the point is, maybe they need to be offended!

So, it is your contention then that we were more 'sensetive' to violence at some point in our history? If so when would that have been?

Guns can be used for many things, killing is one. Cars may not be made for killing, but they kill more each year due to misuse that guns do.

Guns are not meant for people to go around shooting innocent people. People choose to misuse them for that purpose. The point I am making is that you are not going to stop such events by going on a banning spree. You will go for clips that hold more than ten rounds now, then come back for those that have 8/6/4/2/1 until you realize that has nothing to do with stopping such tragedies. You and many others continually ignore that it takes less than a couple seconds to change clips.

You then want to chant 'ban assault rifles', yet you don't know what they are and really are just saying it because you hope the fear mongering against 'assault rifles' has made them into a boogey man of weapons in the minds of those that don't know about guns.

During the vietnam action for one.
Teh media was liberal back then and brought graphic stories and photos to the American people about the horrors of the war.
IN Iraq and such not even coffins of dead soldiers could be shown.

guns were designed to kill. PERIOD.
They were improved to kill more efficiently. PERIOD.

Anything can be misused to kill but guns were explicitly designed to kill.

That would appear to me to say that we are more sensetive about it now than prior if we can't see dead soldiers today (except on the internet of course).

We could not see them becuase it would have cut into the fervor for war.
Media control. The was was pretty much "sanitized" for the US population.
At the same time the media was promoting the war.

Yes nothing would stop ALL useless deaths from guns, however it could and has reduced them.
