The only way nuclear war could be triggered would be if some "demented" Russian dictator invaded a NATO member - say, one or more of the Baltics - and NATO lacked sufficient conventional forces on the ground to oppose him.

A major flaw in your defense of NATO insanity is that any NATO country bordering Russia- or any other NATO country- could be the aggressor towards Russia- resulting in a Russian response resulting in a NATO defense of its member.
So once again- are you really going to chance the total annihilation of England to the behavior of some irrational crazie elected by idiots other than Brits somewhere else ?
