How is that going to punish the elected officials? They aren't running businesses that depend on tourism.

Well I believe that it punishes the people who support those politicians under the theory that if the punishment hurts enough they will try to convince their elected officials to change their behavior.

No...not at all...and If you had any critical thinking skills you'd know that the bigots who discriminate against gays do so on religious grounds.
