New Orleans versus San Diego

Interesting that YOU would bring up race, in actuality the LA riots and New Orleans had different ethnicities rioting/looting. It's a Liberal Democrat inner city thing, NOT a black thing.
Stupid racist stereotyper.

"Despite the race riot image the event retains, much of the looting and violence was done by young men, both black and Hispanic, and much of the looting was opportunistic theft of luxury goods. Criminals used the chaos to their own benefit, and street gangs settled scores with each other and fought the police."

Both of you are very young and were only small children when it happened so that can excuse your ignorance partly - hopefully as you get older and wiser and more understanding of history, you will end up more Conservative as most people do.

It is SO painfully retarded to try & draw some sort of ideological reason for the L.A. riots, and the lack thereof in San Diego, and, in so doing, split hairs about the "liberal-ness" of L.A. vs. San Diego.

This, more than anything, shows the gamut of your reasoning capability (which, in case anyone else hadn't already reached this conclusion, ain't much).

On his show today Neal Borrtz said the difference is that the people of San Diego are smart and the people of New Orleans are "parasites." The quotes are there because that's the actual word he used. Parasites.

I guess it all depends one your perspective.

The "parasite" is the black one who "looted" food .. in a life or death crisis.

The "smart" ones are the ones who "found" food .. inside a store .. in a crisis.

How about we compare the level of assistance that went into San Diego and what went into New Orleans and the swiftness and efficiency of that delivery?

One question: Was this the same writer for both those pieces?

Different people consider what happened in New Orleans during Katrina different things. It's not like the associated press is one big brain that writes everything the same way or ever has.
You only see what you want to see.

AFP is a French agency, AP is the regular AP. Likely if it was published by AP itself it would have said "looted" regardless of the race. This is more likely a translation issue than it is inherent "racism".

Was wondering about all of this myself. On the surface those two articles looked at side by side are inciteful to one who abhors racism....but then you must think about the writers and where they come from.

" According to Jack Stokes, the director of media relations for AP, Dave Martin, the photographer of the first picture, personally witnessed the subject of his photograph entering a grocery store and leaving with items, thus witnessing the man looting. Whereas the photographer of the second photo, Chris Graythen, didn’t witness the subjects of his photograph taking the goods. “I wrote the caption about the two people who 'found' the items. I believed in my opinion, that they did simply find them, and not 'looted' them in the definition of the word."

That entire pseudo-scandal was a myth. The first photographer witnessed actual looting. The first couple in that picture, looted. The second couple, was not witnessed looting... there were items all over the place, and they most likely, in fact, DID find them.

Most likely because they are white? I think it is equally likely that they looted the goods.

BTW Grind, have you seen any of the Islamofascism Awareness Week activities at Northeastern? Apparently, some NU organization is participating in the event.

Whenever those people were looting that food so that they wouldn't starve they should've left some money on the counter for the guys whenever they came back.

wrong.

The photographer has said the following:

"I wrote the caption about the two people who found the items. I believe in my opinion, they did simply find them, and not 'looted them in the defination of the word."

He goes on to say:

"These people were not ducking into a store and busting down windows to get electronics. They picked up bread and cokes that were floating in the water. They would have floated away anyhow."

Are you having some difficulty in reading?

Is the print too small?

Yall never saw the Simpsons episode where Homer becomes a fireman or Gangs of New York? People loot in fires all the time. Also, water can be just as damaging. The idea that the nature of the disaster is the main factor is baseless.

There are no blacks in SD? Dano will probably argue that it's because of the Republican Governor and SD is a bit conservatve for the state, rather than black/white.

Six illegal immigrants arrested at Qualcomm

San Diego:

Six undocumented Mexican immigrants were arrested today by U.S. Border Patrol agents at Qualcomm Stadium, after a report that they were stealing food and water meant for evacuees, according to spokesman Damon Foreman.

San Diego police responded to a call about alleged theft from the evacuation center and encountered six people in a van who didn't speak English and didn't have California driver's licenses, Foreman said. The police officers called the Border Patrol, who arrived at the stadium and made the arrests, he said. Foreman said the immigrants admitted they were Mexican citizens and that they were stealing.
