New Trump poll proves Obama and Clinton were right: The GOP base are deplorable, bitter clingers


"Hurt dogs sure do holler." That was the saying that came to mind in 2008 when then-candidate for president Barack Obama drew outrage from Republicans because he described their voters as "bitter" people who "cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them."

The phrase came to mind again in 2016, when Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton used the memorable phrase "basket of deplorables" to describe supporters of Donald Trump. Since a cardinal rule of politics is "insult your opponent, but never their voters," the mainstream media picked up and amplified the umbrage-taking from Republicans.

What wasn't discussed very much in all this media coverage: The truth value of either Clinton's or Obama's comments. And what a shame, because both of them were right.

New polling out this week from CBS News proves, as many feared, Trump's fourth set of indictments — he now faces 91 felony charges across four jurisdictions — has only caused the GOP to rally around their seething orange leader.

(And let's not forget this comes after a jury recently found him responsible for sexual assault.) Trump has surged to 62% support in the Republican presidential primary poll, and 73% of those backing Trump say it's because, not despite, of his massive criminal exposure.

And, in a poll finding that really is astonishing, Trump voters claimed they trust the notorious fraudster more than anyone. A whopping 71% of Trump voters claim "what he says is true." Only 63% of them say that about family and friends, 56% about conservative media figures and 42% about religious leaders.

The word that comes to mind is "cult."

Trumpers truly are lacking in something upstairs.

Something wrong with them that would take armies of psychiatrists and psychoanalysts decades to come anywhere near getting a handle on.

Never seen anything like it.
 
That is just good empirical proof that a large majority of Republicans are morally depraved.

People who trust Trump more than their own family are just terrible human beings.

I'm not 100% convinced their admiration for him is genuine.

I still suspect many of them just want to anger the left so badly, they support someone even they know is a POS.

Supporting an amoral sleazebag just to piss other people off also equally qualifies them as terrible human beings. I think most 8 year olds know that's just wrong and stupid.

Nope. It's exactly what it is. Only cult leaders command this kind of blind loyalty. It is a textbook cult, through & through.

Those on the left WOULD understand it if they chose to actually listen to what trump voters say instead of trying to always tell them how they think, or what makes them Trump voters. Many on the left want to define Trump voters how THEY want them to be instead of seeing things the way they are. This is done as a political tactic,...as a way to belittle those who voted for Trump.

Trump voters HATE and despise what has slowly over time become the corrupt system that we live in. It is NOT that we LOVE Trump the person,...it is that we HATE the system. We for the most part see that both the left and right wings are part of the same rotten no good corrupt buzzard that it is. Feeding off of us. He and those like him are the nukes we launched into the belly of the beast. I only wish there were more. Until we ALL come to this same conclusion nothing will ever change. In fact it will only get worse.

I only disagree with Hillary that it is only half of Republicans are deplorable....

.... As I now find them to be totally Deplorable AND REPUGNANT through and through!

They make me want to VOMIT!

Well if you guys think that putting a totally corrupt and amoral con man in the WH is the way to fight corruption, then that's just naive and makes no sense.

The sooner you accept the fact that 1) the level of corruption you all claim exists is overstated and exaggerated and 2) as long as we rely on other human beings to be in charge of the govt, writing and enforcing the laws, and running our commerce, there is always going to be some level of corruption. There is NOTHING we can do to stop it, other than keeping a watchful eye and arresting and prosecuting the guilty parties when caught.

But the truth of the matter, the way I see it, is that the real high levels of corruption exist in private industry.

Where Trump comes from, IOW.

Elected officials are relatively honest and forthright compared to the corporate world.

So you Trumpers just have it backwards.

Putting Trump in the WH was a classic case of letting a snake guard the henhouse.
