NEWSMAX: No Voting Machine Fraud

Conspiracy theories tend to increase in periods of high stress (and people with a high level of dopamine).

On conspiracies like JFK or 9/11 I used to get bogged down in explaining details. Then, I realized nobody with all the resources needed to pull off such an event would never be stupid enough to say "let's shoot him from the front and explain it by saying he was shot from behind." Or, "let's plant explosives in those buildings and blame it on an airliner."

Why do you think people have been increasingly stressed the past 30ish years to the point where many are logic-impaired?

Agreed. Also factor in the number of people to remain close-mouthed about a dark, evil secret. It's impossible in the long run. People talk, especially if it's about something bad someone else did.

Of course, there was voting fraud. All you need is to don your red slippers, click the heels together 3 times and say 'I believe, I believe, I believe".

There is voting fraud, but it's so infrequent that it has never, ever altered a major election. People are taking the corruption of their hick town and translating it into a national crisis without recognizing how much public oversight controls the national situation. The lives of 329,000,000 and trillions of dollars are riding on getting the job done correctly which is why the national oversight is better than in Buttfuck, Alabama.

Example: Do you know why I knew Obama was always an American citizen? Because if he wasn't, the evil witch Hillary would have dug up the dirt and used it against him. She had the resources and the will. She didn't find shit. If she didn't, after the election, the Republicans would have within months. There was nothing to find. Trump was too fucking stupid to understand that truism, but he was mostly showboating anyway with his Birtherism bullshit.

In modern society, meaning post-Watergate, it's been increasingly difficult for anyone to pull the wool over an entire nation's eyes for very long. Too many people looking to fuck each other over for an edge. When it comes to Democrats vs. Republicans, literally billions of dollars worth of resources are being spent to fuck each other over and get an edge. If one side is hiding something, the other side will find it in due time. Secrets are fleeting, military and political secrets are the most fleeting of all. Too many people looking for an edge.

It's this system of viciousness which is why it works for We, the People. Yes, there are downsides. Trump and this conspiracy theory bullshit is a downside. Hopefully, we've hit the end there and will start swinging back toward the center for awhile.

Real fraud is extremely rare and it goes Repub and Dem. It is in such small amounts that it is irrelevant in an election of over 150 million voters.

I was referring to more recent years when conspiracies have appeared to multiply: Q, pizzagate, birthers, "rigged" elections (2004, 2012, 2016, 2020), Seal Team 6...(of course, Hofstadter's "Paranoid Style in American Politics" shows a much longer trend).

I don't know why it has occurred. As media has to compete more for viewers they also have to sensationalize stories or people will not watch. CNN started out as a hard news station with little politics. People will not read hard news and quit taking newspapers. They want simplicity and thrill that demonizes the other side all included in a Facebook meme.

I have read some interesting books about the cultural split that talks about group behavior and identification. It is from well established research, but I'm not sure why it is affecting politics today. It shows we will choose our group over another even when it is imaginary. One experiment divided people into 2 imaginary groups. They gave them the choice of giving everyone from both groups $100 or giving your group members $60 and the other $40. Most chose the 60-40 even though it meant your side got less.

I have friends and relatives who quit going to Wal-Mart because they heard they gave money to Biden, quit watching professional sports, quit watching certain actors or musicians because of their political views, won't buy Nike.....It just creates more hostility and spreads hate and eliminates things we previously enjoyed. And, I think it is contrary to free market capitalism which rewards good products for decent prices. And, liberals are the same way but their enemies are Hobby Lobby, Chick-Fil-A......

Add to all of this the fact that we have more access to information now, than decades ago when the govt. had the edge. As you note, eventually somebody would talk. Today...someone will steal info by any of a number of means and it will be viral in two days.

Of course, this also makes it easier to spread conspiracies...

Quite a bit to unpack there, but CNN got their bump during Desert Storm. Followed closely by the OJ trial. I think the sensationalism you reference was born there.

As for the free markets, now that corporations literally write legislation out in the open, people tend to boycott companies who are dumb enough to make their political leanings public.

Agreed, but those stories (OJ) were actual news and not that political. Also, there was nothing partisan about it (although it became a racial issue).

Sheryl Attkisson's new book ("Slanted") describes how cable news became political and how those on the left and right hate what it has done to journalism.

The seed was,the equal time requirement that Reagan ended. At that time, you had to provide equal time when you gave news or an opinion piece. It was not a big burden and it was educational when they gave time to 3rd and 4th party spokesmen.

Actual stories like Birtherism and Hunter Biden?

You bring up excellent points, but sensationalizing news has been around as long as newspapers.

It became most noticeable on a US national level with Yellow Journalism, the Joseph Pulitzer vs. William Randolph Hearst newspaper war which factored into the Spanish-American War. Today, about 120 years later, we're doing the same thing except, as Althea wrote about, we have Cable News, the Internet and more access to information.....Good or Bad. :D

Not fake. Both Newsmax and Fox made statements on air saying none of the stuff they said about Smartmatic and Dominion voting machines and software was accurate. I watched it live on the Judge Jeanine show. I am sure it is still available.

They did not deny any statement of theirs.

Also, it might be hard to prove JPP Asshole #2 is not a cunt. On the other hand, Dominion and Smartmatic can prove Hugo Chavez did not write their software and all the other claims made about those two corporations.

No one is claiming Hugo Chavez wrote any software. Again, you haven't been paying attention.

I know. I still have trouble understanding how they believe it.

But, I do realize we basically believe anything our side is pushing. Facts don't really matter.

None of us had any clue whether the Anita Hill or Ford testimony was true or false, but liberals believed them and conservatives thought they were lying. And, we knew in advance that would be true--partisanship determined their conclusions.

I'm curious what the new tactic will be after Congress certifies the electoral votes on January 6 and declares Biden the winner. I'm sure the Trump supporters are sure he will still win the presidency through some new scheme.

Since there is no required majority, how do you suppose that's going to happen?
