Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency and banned cars from the road beginning at 4 p.m. today as Massachusetts braces for a potentially historic blizzard that could blanket the state with more than 2 feet of snow, whip up winds to 70 miles per hour, and batter the coast with giant waves.

The travel ban, a rare measure, was announced by Patrick at a news conference at the state’s emergency bunker in Framingham.

Patrick said the state of emergency would allow the state to “implement emergency measures to ensure the safety of our residents and take appropriate steps to mobilize state assets.”

I'd rip ANY governor doing this, but you won't believe that. Like I said, you'd need to see police roaming the streets killing at random before you'd believe a police state and even then, you just might not have a big issue with it, since they are paid to be the experts.

The difference between you and I is I see the Governor doing this out of concern for the citizens of his state.

how is it paranoid to see this as an example of the police state. did you see the that you can do jail time and pay a fine if the officers stop you? that is textbook police state. the question isn't whether they will stop you, the question is can they and can they throw you in jail.

Governor Perry here in Texas ordered everyone in Houston to evacuate before hurricane Ike arrived, but you won't hear STY or BHY speaking up about that because Perry's a good little Rightie Pol.
