What is the use of making the big bucks if you just spend it all to live there ?

There is talent, and more would follow the jobs.
Most of the auto industry has moved south out of Detroit....

I think they'd have a hard time getting VPs and most of their young talent to transfer to Nowhere, Alabama/Wyoming. Unless there is a lot of industry in the area, maybe, but if an area is built on one industry or around one particular company no way would people transfer en mass.
