Not going back is a admirable goal,
but our Constitution prevents us from going too far forward.
Newer, more modern democracies,
which would constitute just about all the other ones from ourself,
were founded on the principle of maximizing the common good.
Whether that's good or bad is a matter of personal values and opinion.
That's not what this is about.
America, the oldest continuously operating democracy,
was by choice not founded that way.
Our Constitution was written to maximize the autonomy and likely success
of the individual white male property holder.
That's the core foundation.
Any amendments can only take us so far from that.
If we wanted to do it right, we'd have to start over;
And if we tried to start over, we wouldn't ever again agree on the same constitution.
Partition would be inevitable.
