The Republicans shut down the government with the stated goal of defunding Obamacare, we all know that is not going to happen..... That, to me, is a loss for the Republicans.

If the Auburn Tigers start a football game with the goal of getting more points than the other team, but then fail to do so, I consider that a loss.

Predictable! Now the Dems are going to extract a few pounds of flesh from the baggers as the blame goes directly to the baggers. This could be the beginning of the breaking of the GOP, and all for naught. Obamacare is here to stay, none of the rightwing swine should doubt that now!

Collins asked for only two things.

Second, enforcement of income-verification criteria for those seeking Obamacare's insurance subsidies — criteria the administration wrote but waived.


Here Collins was asking not for alteration of, but for enforcement of, Obamacare.


Just as many Republicans believe the Democrats' primary goal on immigration reform is to turn as many immigrants as possible into voters as quickly as possible, many Republicans also believe the Democrats' primary goal regarding Obamacare is to turn as many people as possible into subsidy recipients as quickly as possible. Hence Democrats' aversion to income criteria to prevent fraud.


As of early Monday evening, Democrats had refused Collins' bargain, giving several reasons but really having only one important one: They loathe the sequester, which prevents them from opening the spending spigot.


Suddenly, however, they decided that conditions are imperative.



They favored attaching to a government funding or debt ceiling measure a change in the Budget Control Act intended to weaken the sequester.

Obstructionist Republicans created the situation we currently find ourselves in.

They refused to bargain in good faith and instead have resorted to holding the country's financial stability hostage while they prance around making idiotic proclamations and performing tricks for the gullible and the low information voter that we've witnessed over the past several weeks.

If obstructionist Republicans are suddenly so concerned about what Democrats MIGHT do somewhere down the line then by GOD they can demonstrate the ability to stop playing partisan games.

THAT is a detail that can be worked out AFTER obstructionist Republicans let the hostages go and stop playing partisan games with the country's finances.

Bad laws like this don't stick unless around 70% of the people support it. It took a little more than a decade to get rid of prohibition, and this law won't take that long to get rid of.

SS was going to feed retirees, widows, and orphans, and now the money goes to feed the world.

Just like the income tax. Only rich people were going to be taxed, and now everyone is taxed on their income.
