Obama: If you got a business, you didn't build that!

Einstein said it was possible. I don't doubt that. Why do you? LOL......

Considering the decline of the public education system, I have my doubts as to whether or not we will ever achieve this, or hold on to what we have...LOL

Are you implying that the decline of the public education systems has any bearing on the intelligence of our children? Nonsense, jaybird.

so tell me, when will Time travel be commercially available? LOL....

I remember watching the Jetsons and thinking it would be impossible to talk to someone and see them at the same time. Now I FaceTime and Skype people all the time!

No not implying it....Saying it outright.

So, you as a parent are totally useless in educating your child or supplementing their education? I did not totally rely on the school system to educate my children. I guess that is why they are successful, but I had parents who did the same for me, and their parents for them, see the trend here.

Education in certain areas is excellent. It is only in the areas that suffer from lower social conditions that education is lacking and the reasons are numerous as to why it is failing.

Education and intelligence are not connected at all, Rana. My grandfather was the most intelligent man I ever knew, far more than my father. My grandfather did not read or write anything other than his own name. Although he was never compensated for it or even recognized in any real way he was directly responsible for tire building techniques that made Firestone many millions of dollars. And he was a genius in about anything mechanical and a pretty doggone good electrician and appliance repairman.

See Rana, and they say that people are upfront about what they are asking....This is crap, in no way did your question even hint at that....Oh and BTW, for your information, both of my kids are in collage, one is Dean's list, going for her nursing degree, the other is just starting, but graduated early top of his class. So your little 'gottcha' backfired....Next time try being honest with your question.

Ok, but these other businesses didn't do this so that they could benefit society on a purely altruistic level. They invented these things because the free market demanded them, and money could be made. See, where Obama misses the mark here, is that he is anti free market therefore gives examples of governmental control as if without that nothing could exist...

That is laughable.

You like to use roads as an example of your premise, but see, roads are constitutionally mandated. I don't think anyone holds issue with the government spending on roads. It is when the constitutional powers are cast aside in favor of the whims, and dictates of one party or another that rubs people the wrong way.

I'm not sure what "whims" you're alluding to but if it's ObamaCare the free market has had more than sufficient time to deal with the situation. I'm sure we can all agree the situation has been getting worse as more and more people are unable to afford medical insurance/care. This has been progressing for many years and with the financial debacle and depressed economy it would continue to worsen. Somebody had to do something and, again, we all know how Congress has handled medical care. The last shot was Hillary and that died two decades ago. The people can't wait another 20 years to try again. Somebody had to step up and make a decision.

The folks who are against a one payer system will always be rubbed the wrong way. While it would have been nice to have a consensus we both know that would never happen, at least not in the near future, as they've been trying for 100 years. If, by some off chance government medical does not work which is highly unlikely since every country that implemented it has kept it, things can be changed. ObamaCare is not a Constitutional Amendment.

Considering it has worked everywhere it's been tried isn't it worth giving it a try here?

Okay, that's it - no more whining and sniveling about name-calling from you. :D

I've already said in an earlier post to Rana, that I've tried it both ways, and I could care less that I don't live up to your double standard. My suggestion is that I will give out what comes at me from now on...You want to discuss, and debate that's fine, but if you want to be an asshole, you're going to get it right back at you... And that goes for the females in here as well, if you can dish it, then you better be able to take it.

this is the problem I see with liberals, somehow you think that you can just ram shit down the peoples throats whether they want it or not? That isn't how this country works.

Just when are you going to jump off that merry-go-round, jaybird?

I don't think ideas and inventions 'come along' any quicker than they ever have. How many patents has the US Patent office issued, any idea? I suspect, as technology has advanced, new inventions are born at a consistent rate, regardless of surrounding infrastructure or capability, and sometimes... FOR THAT VERY REASON ITSELF! One thing I do know, the ideas and inventions don't come from government. While government can do many things to encourage and enable invention, it can also do many things to hinder and obstruct invention. I have no problem with encouraging and/or enabling, but you seek to mask something as if it were concluded to be doing this, when it's not. You view what you are doing as encouraging, but it is obstructing instead. Regulations and mandates generally obstruct invention, or the realization of capitalist success from them...same difference. What is the purpose of inventing and creating if you can't prosper from your ideas? If you have a government that will steal your ideas and give you nothing, why should you share that with them, or with society?

We'd had more inventions in the last 100 years than in the last 1000. Many space programs led to commercial products.

As for prospering from ones inventions that's fine. However, we have to be careful we don't end up with two civilizations in one country. By that I mean some people having 21st century technology while others are still living/struggling in the past. A large gap in income/wealth will lead to that and that results in an unstable society.

I'm not talking about wealth redistribution in the sense one person has a 3-D TV and someone else is watching an old B&W 12". I'm talking about a society where everything costs money including life's bare necessities. We can't have many people extremely well off while others are dying from a lack of medical care. We can't have a large segment of the population thriving while others are going hungry. As society progresses we have to bring the less fortunate along with us. It's not a case of not wanting others to have a lot. It's a case of not allowing others to have nothing.

I think you meant in your last sentence to say "not allowing others to have anything". Otherwise an excellent piece of writing and thinking!!!!!!

'Bout time you got with the program here. ;)
