You do realize that it is neither cost nor energy efficient, and that the cost of food has risen in direct relation to the increased use of corn ethanol as fuel?

There is zero net gain, but humans all over the world now pay more for food.

It's quite logical......price support subsidies guaranteed a farmer a specific price for a bushel of corn.....typically, in the late 90s the price support level was $3.95 a bushel......a farmer would "seal" his corn (agree not to sell it) on a contract with the federal government.....when he decided to sell it they would look at the market price, let's say $2.45 and the farmer would receive $2.45 from the local elevator and $1.50 from the federal government......if, however, the market price was over $3.95 the government was not required to pay any money to the farmer.......therefore, when ethanol production caused the price of corn to go over the sealing price there were no more subsidy payments to farmers under the price support system......

actually no......the cost of the fuel used to transport the food from the distribution center to your grocery store contributes more to the cost of your food than does any corn used for ethanol production........in fact, most corn used in the US for human consumption is turned into corn syrup to put in your non-diet soda beverages and that comes to approximately 3 cents a can (up from 1 cent a can ten years ago)......I'm sorry if your pop is more expensive because farmers don't get $2 billion in agricultural subsidies for growing corn like they used to........
 
as far as corn used for animal feed, keep in mind that the by product of ethanol production (brewer's mash) is a superior feed for cattle, since the only thing removed from the corn is sugars, which ruminants can't digest productively......when corn passes through a cow's stomach the sugars are released as methane gas and go to waste (as I recall they are a contributing factor to global warming as well)......

The above is a hypothetical, not real data and it doesn't show what you stated. Show us where you are getting that the farm subsidies were greater than the ethanol subsidies.
