I think the presence of landslides in the past was mostly the result of poor PR and information skills. Candidates these days just have much more ability to compete against each other. That's why there hasn't been a landslide since '84. Unless a massive scandal emerges right before the election, it's not going to happen. A candidate like McCain won 47% against a candidate like Obama. Just think about that for a second. It wasn't because of McCain... it was because of the people behind him.
