Obama throws shade at Trump in Rutgers speech

I didn't say the average black person is anti-intellectual. I said there is a strain of anti-intellectualism in the black community. Those are two different things. And it is an unfortunate reality

There is a "strain" of it in the white community as well Billy Bob Leroy.

The irony of his comments, and I'm very hesitant to write this, is within the black community often times being smart is seen as "trying to act white". So Obama's comments directed at those politically opposite of him need to be taken in full context. White liberals don't like to acknowledge this of course. But it is an unfortunate reality

I have only heard that from my black friends when the person who is educated tries to belittle the black community, and distance themselves from their blackness. I have never heard that term used just because of intelligence and education.

Your friends said educated blacks accuse those less academically achieving of trying to act white? Am I misunderstanding that because that would be the opposite of what's happening.

Does anti intellectualism mean disagreeing with globalist experts paid to regurgitate lies?

It means you're too stupid to ever articulate, factually and accurately, the disagreements you have with the establishment. Furthermore, you are proud of your stupidity.

I said nothing about Obama notnlooking smart Jarod. I'm responding to Christi's OP and this claim that Obama's comments were directed at white Trump supporters. White liberals won't comment on the strain of anti-intellectualism within the black community. That's what I'm speaking about. You didn't address it nor did Chrisit.

I don't think that's correct. He was speaking at a college graduation and I'm guessing there were plenty of blacks in the class. He was taking lightly veiled shots at Trump and I don't understand why you think there was a racial component to this comment: The president also slammed the debate over "political correctness," warning the graduates against leaders who do not pay attention to nuance.

"If you were listening to the political debate, you might wonder where this strain of anti-intellectualism came from," Obama said. "Class of 2016, let me be as clear as I can be: In politics and in life, ignorance is not a virtue.
"

Because he's making specific reference to Trump supporters and we know what that's code for.

It's interesting he makes no reference to Bernie Sanders and his pride in his ignorance of voting against all trade deals. Or no reference to his former Secretary of State who called TPP a great deal and is now running against it because of the ignorance of her supporters. But they supported him so he makes it seem like Trump supporters only?

That's phony crap. Obama exposes himself as much as he does the loser trump.

Do you think that about every politician who's dissed Trump?

I don't take it that way at all. I see Obama taking shots at Trump because of Trump's lies that America lost its greatness during O's administration. Obama's defending his legacy and warning against someone who's all hat, no cattle.

I look at the location. A commencement address? Maybe other politicians attack from a partisan position but that's the difference to me. His own S.O.S. is turning on his deal. That's cool with him? What's that say about his legacy and support for it?

I'll have to google what other presidents have said at those events. I hardly think Obama was alone in calling out his opponents.

he speaks from experience........his ignorance has cost us all a great deal.......

Political correctness on college campuses today includes shutting down speaker or ideas that one finds disagreeable. I guess it's only angry white males that believe listening to multiple viewpoints is a good thing. Hopefully these 'AWM's' will learn that we shouldn't be exposed to idea's from those who don't think like ourselves.

Wait...didn't you just blast the president for his speech at Rutgers, which included this?

"I know a couple years ago, folks on this campus got upset that Condoleezza Rice was supposed to speak at a commencement. Now, I don’t think it’s a secret that I disagree with many of the foreign policies of Dr. Rice and the previous administration. But the notion that this community or the country would be better served by not hearing from a former Secretary of State, or shutting out what she had to say — I believe that’s misguided. I don’t think that’s how democracy works best, when we’re not even willing to listen to each other.

If you disagree with somebody, bring them in and ask them tough questions. Hold their feet to the fire. Make them defend their positions. If somebody has got a bad or offensive idea, prove it wrong. Engage it. Debate it. Stand up for what you believe in. Don’t be scared to take somebody on. Don’t feel like you got to shut your ears off because you’re too fragile and somebody might offend your sensibilities. Go at them if they’re not making any sense. Use your logic and reason and words.
