absolutely correct, however, most of dealings with indians have been with the states they are in because the states also have power over reservations that are in the state's borders.

and maybe you're right, the fed gov does have a role to play. it just seems to me that obama is simply paying lip service. tell me, what role do you see the fed gov playing that the states are or would not play?

Not to mention I get the indescribable willies every time the feds decide it's time to "help" us poor, ignorant, ignored Native Americans. Seems to me, going all the way back to the original treaties, every time we get "help" from the feds, it ends up costing us way more than the "help" is worth. Give me one reason to trust this fucker any more than anyone else.

As an escapee from rural Georgia and a resident of the South for more than 1/2 my life, I can tell you that separation of races and ethnic groups, both physically and mentally is alive and well, along with the bigotry that accompanies that separation. When I arrived in Georgia, it was just 15 years after the opening of an extension of the Interstate connecting the area to Atlanta 70 miles to the West and the SC Coast to the East in a county of 13,000 with the County Seat of 4500, 11 miles away. The attitude toward Blacks and Mexicans and the despicable adjectives still being used to describe them were a throwback to "The War of Northern Agression", their term for the Civil War. Is the beautiful Yadkin Valley different?

Yes, the Yadkin Valley is very different, as is other areas of The South that I have spent time in. You see, I grew up near Boston, Massachusetts, and the racism there was ugly and rampant. Up there the Irish hate the Italians and the Italians hate the Jews and everyone hates the blacks and the blacks hate everyone else. You had better know the area well becuse if you went too far on the subway in a certain direction, especially at night, you might not come back. I could tell you stories that would make the hair stand up on your neck. You can go on a chat room there now if you want and the first thing someone will ask you is "what are you", and they are asking for your nationality or race.

I haven't experienced anything like that here. In fact I've experienced the complete opposite. I have friends that I've known for over a decade and I don't know anything about their ancestry.

If I have a "hang up", Libby, its not with blacks, of course, but with the Democrat Party, which has screwed over blacks for centuries. In 1968 they simply changed tactics, which have been wildly successful.
 
indians had their chance. We wanted brick roads and technology but they were holding us all back with their teepees and drum circles. If they were around today the would be worse than rednecks, hunting deer and praying to some mountain god.

now they can live on reservations and live off the land like their ancestors wanted a long time ago. Face it, we are all better off for it.
