Final results on Saturday showed that Islamist parties won nearly three-quarters of the seats in parliament in Egypt's first elections since the ouster of authoritarian president Hosni Mubarak, according to election officials and political groups.

The Islamist domination of Egypt's parliament has worried liberals and even some conservatives about the religious tone of the new legislature.
Worries liberals ?......Now ?.....How naive are they....it not surprise to the rest of us....

It's all good. So long as they don't all meld together into one conglomeration under one leader who crawls out of a well we'll be good. Wait, maybe that's what the Mayans meant with the calendar ending this year!

The problem is "we", in the west, don't understand their culture as far as politics and religion is concerned. Voting for a "leader/representative" makes as much sense to them as us voting on the 10 Commandments or having primaries in different countries before electing a Pope. Their election, the voice of the people, is saying there shouldn't be any elections. The concept is as alien to their culture as it would be for us to vote on a Priest/Minister/Rabbi, etc.

That is at the root of the resistance to spreading democracy. Just as the west would never accept a political system run by appointed religious persons they will never accept a system whereby the common person votes for a leader. Just as those in the west proclaim they will fight to the death for their governing system (democracy) those in the east proclaim they will do the same to protect their governing system.

"We" complain about them trying to change our system by encroaching Sharia Law. Surely it's not difficult for us to understand how they feel when we bomb, invade and attempt to overthrow their leaders and going so far as to tell them how their children may dress, how they will be educated, the music they can listen to.....It can't get any more outrageous.

Finally there is a western leader, Obama, who understands the situation. He may not be the Messiah but he's got more brains and common sense than the combined leaders of the western world.
 
I'm still not sure how Obama could have missed on this one. What you have to do is an armed occupation, with no elections, and install a Christian leader for the nation against their will.

I mean, for goodness' sake - it ain't rocket science....
 
Its odd that pinheads think in extremes so much of the time.....armed occupation ? Christian leader in a Muslim country ?
Like they have no concept of moderation except in mis-characterizing themselves....

Egyptians will learn they were better off with Mubarak than they will be with the Muslim Brotherhood....(and so would the US)
 
Bravo, were you this critical of Bush when the Shi'ite party won the majority of city council elections in 2005 in Iraq. A party that has direct ties with Iran? I bet you weren't. The only way you would have been critical is if Bush had been black. Seriously, do you have no knowledge of the world. Are you unaware that Saddam, for all the bastard he was kept radical Islam at bay in Iraq and NOW since Bush got rid of him, the Shi'ite party in Iraq is getting stronger and stronger? Did you know that this year the most Iranians ever were recorded entering Iraq? Do you think they are there to buy stuff? Maybe they get better deals on Persian rugs in Mosul than in their own country? Bush did the same thing to Iraq, directly, that you blame Obama for in Egypt.
