Curious how many Democrats live on your block? Just download the Obama campaign's new mobile app [1].

The app, released last week, includes a Google map for canvassers that recognizes your current location and marks nearby Democratic households with small blue flags.

For each targeted address, the app displays the first name, age and gender of the voter or voters who live there: "Lori C., 58 F, Democrat."

All this is public information, which campaigns have long given to volunteers. But you no longer have to schedule a visit to a field office and wait for a staffer to hand you a clipboard and a printed-out list of addresses.

With the Obama app, getting a glimpse of your neighbor's political affiliation can take seconds.

So is this the future? What are the possible consequences of this kind of public sharing without your knowledge? Could this be used to target certain groups of people based on their political beliefs? What are your thoughts?

You can...But I don't understand why you are trying so hard to derail this thread? It actually effects you at the moment....Are you ok with your political status and location of your home being posted on an app that anyone can look up?

There's nothing to derail, j-mac. Your faux outrage is palpable. Nothing in that app wasn't already accessible; they've just streamlined a 3-step process into one step. Big, fat, hairy deal.

Making light of your privacy going away? What if this were Repubs posting an app to keep track of registered demo's? What's going on here? Are invasions of privacy only bad when a particular party does them? Is it an Obama thing? What? I don't get it.
