Obama's got an app for that...

Quit sniveling. It's been explained to you already. You're too dumb to grasp it. We get that.

So you'd be ok with repubs finding you, and keeping tabs on you through an app? You really are just so damned dumb I am amazed you remember to breath.

Government's had that ability for quite some time, dummy. You really are just so damned dumb it's hilarious that you call others 'dumb'. :rofl2:

:rofl2: :rofl2:

Blogs again, j-mac? 'Jeffrey' sez so, so it's gospel to you?

Your credibility continues to swirl southward, like a turd in a toilet.....

You really are a pest....It is an opinion piece, I already know you have nothing useful to say on any topic because your mental illness precludes intelligent thought...So piss off.

Nope. I can post as I please, just as you can. When you post turds and bullshit, guess what? I'm going to point, scoff and laugh, so everyone knows your standards for credibility are buried in your ass, right under your head.

I doubt that there are many issues that I would agree with you but you are right to worry about this sort of thing.

Making light of your privacy going away? What if this were Repubs posting an app to keep track of registered demo's? What's going on here? Are invasions of privacy only bad when a particular party does them? Is it an Obama thing? What? I don't get it.

I don't get your concern. In the OP you noted,
All this is public information, which campaigns have long given to volunteers. But you no longer have to schedule a visit to a field office and wait for a staffer to hand you a clipboard and a printed-out list of addresses.

If someone is planning on doing something naughty they will take the time to go to the office.

Let me give you an example. Where I live one had to go to a government office in order to find out who owned the house next door which is public information. Now that information can be obtained on the net assuming one knows how to access the info (lot number, district number, etc) which my wife is quite adapt at. :) Furthermore, we can find out what mortgage is owed on any particular house. So, we can check if our neighbor has a big mortgage or a small one.

Now, some may say that's an invasion of privacy but consider the following. If you were to enquire about purchasing that house the notary or lawyer (depending on where one lives) has to have that info, otherwise, you may pay the person for the house and they take the money and don't pay the mortgage. Then the bank comes after you for the money owed on the house.

When it comes to privacy I always remember when AIDS first appeared. People were treated like lepers until others stepped forward. The same thing with gays. The same thing with single motherhood. Whenever what used to be considered "private" has been exposed it changed people's attitude and almost always benefited those affected.

I will make it easy to understand, it is all part of a slippery slope where rights are chipped away like death by a thousand cuts, once rights are given away you can never get them back. Where does it end, would you want an app to tell where potential paedophiles, rapists and sexual offenders are located? There was a case in England where a paediatrician was attacked by a mob because they thought she was a paedophile.

Let me just say this...Here in JPP, we see all the time from both sides of the isle the virtual stalking that goes on in here. The taunting, the vitriolic attack, and the level of discourse.

Since my time in here is relatively new, allow me to ask of the more seasoned members in here, has the level of debate in here always been this contentious? And as the differing opinions in the country get more and more polarized, could information like this readily available to anyone be dangerous?

Now, I am not, or at least now after thinking about it, blaming the Obama campaign necessarily as much as I am wondering about the general slide of "Big Brother" in every day practice.

First of all we're talking about elections, not criminal activity. As for sexual offenders they have to register where they live. In any small town and not so small town that information quickly spreads.

Also, how many gays were attacked and beaten in the past? How many single women were outcast because they bore a child out of wedlock? How many children suffered the stigma and bullying because they were "little bastards"?

As for the slippery slope I was watching a TV show this afternoon about the Germans making a picture concerning the Titanic. They were in production during the war. An interesting note was that Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda, was in charge of the filming and wanted the picture to be the best picture ever so he even commandeered a cruise ship that has been commissioned to be used in the war and used it to represent the Titanic. A bad move considering the Germans had no ships to spare.

Anyway, the SS had spies on the cast/crew to report anything that could be used to entrap and stop the making of the movie. That resulted in everyone keeping their thoughts private. You see, when privacy is the norm it is easy to separate the people as was noted in Pastor Niemöller's famous statement, "First they came for....."

Surely if history has taught us anything it's that it's human nature to hate what is different. It should have also taught us that when people are aware of what others think and do changes happen. There wouldn't have been any Arab Spring without instant communication. Who was going to be the lone outspoken opponent to a tyrant?

The benefits of openness far out weigh the downside.

I'm relatively new here but one has to remember it's much easier to slide down than to climb up. One or two vile members can influence others to act the same way.

As to "Big Brother" it's a problem when only "Big Brother" knows "all" and the people don't. It's easier to "pick off" people one by one when privacy is rampant just like the gays and those with AIDS quickly learned.

you've been a member for nearly 4 years....how is that relatively new, given the board is only 6 years old?

4 years?!! I didn't realize it was that long. Also, I was thinking a number of posters came from other boards where they knew each other so it seems there is a big history of which I'm unaware.

Damo, SF, Grind, Desh, me and some others have been around from a couple of old sites for a long time. There was full politics.com and even one other before this on if I'm not mistaken.

I will give you another example of the state going totally OTT, our caring sharing ex Labour government wanted to create a database listing anyone who had any contact with children even if they were only parents driving their children's friends to school. Potentially it could have had up to 11 million records, one of the first things Cameron did when he gained power was to scrap the whole thing.

I've seen that documentary about the Titanic quite recently.
