Exactly, so what the fuck happened to them?
vodka?
my guess is that they no longer have the systemic goal of winning in the olympics anymore. russia is in a confused state (pun intended) right now.
Exactly, so what the fuck happened to them?
UK's been doing well the last two days. What have they been winning at?
It's about something not all of us really appreciate and that is 'face'. Failure is a loss of face, not only for oneself but for ones family, teachers, and society in general. We can feel embarrassed, but usually can shrug it off and get back to whatever we were doing.
I trained a young Chinese lad to take part in an English speaking competition. There was a poem, 'The Butterfly' I think, and a couple of pieces of prose. He learned them beautifully and I taught him how to match his facial expressions and mood to the text.
I left, after the last session and made him promise to call me as soon as the competition was over. He didn't call. I saw him a few days later. Well, I said, how was it?
Not good, he said.
Were you nervous, did you forget your lines? What went wrong? What did your Dad say?
Dad was very angry, he said.
I laughed. Angry? What did he do? Beat you?
Yes, he beat me.
This lad had come SECOND out of all the chinese kids in the New Territories! Second!
He explained that his father had told his workmates that his son would win. His grandparents had been in the audience dressed up to their nines. His school principal had been there. And my student who had come SECOND had let them all down.
That was possibly the worst case of oriental stupidity I have ever experienced.
Well, I certainly wouldnt diagree with the assertion that Americans dont "really appreciate" "oriental stupidity"
Of course, if Low were a better teacher, the kid could have avoided a beating...
There's an Olympic Soccer and Darts competition?

Yes, and GB has nearly three times their combined total!
Time for you to stop drinking, Tom, and go take a nap.
So you agree that Hong Kong is an "indivisible part of China" and that Low's assertions are just blustering, on his part.
Thanks
How many have GB won?![]()

Had you bothered to check you would have seen that China and Hong Kong compete separately. Oh and GB has sixteen gold medals now!!
Had your county of Yorkshire entered an independent team, I am told it would be seventh in the medals table! Eeee by thee 'eck!
