Oh God, Plastic 3D Printed Guns, It's The End Of The World!

Just a thought about plastic guns made with a 3D printer.

I know plastic technology and printer technology are far, far advanced these days and amazing. But as far as I know, plastic rifling in a plastic gun barrel would only be good for about a half dozen shots at best with any kind of accuracy. As far as I know plastic springs and fasteners technology is hardly reliable for any lasting durability and as long as the plastic 3D printed gun is unloaded it might well be indictable if all of its parts are plastic. Once a bullet is installed in it, OOPS! It's now detectable by a metal detector, unless somebody knows there's such a thing as an "all plastic" bullet.

I think the leftist hysteria about 3D printed plastic guns is just more pure horse manure! They need a new issue every day now that the midterm elections are getting closer. They'll adopt any stupid issue and hysterically promote it as a political disaster that only they, the left can fix with more government and thereby, more hysterical horse manure spreading Democrats in offices of government power.

Government is force by definition and corruption by nature. The BIGGER the government, the BIGGER the force and the BIGGER the corruption!

I definitely agree this whole 3d gun printing thing has been highly politicized and frankly way over-exaggerated. And even if you could print a durable 3d gun, we've been able to make our guns at home this whole time. It's totally legal, actually. It's considered a hobby not unlike building computers or car engines. And building your own gun is not nearly as difficult as you might think. The legal precedent for printing guns should be no different.

Actually, they do make plastic bullets...

...at $1.00 (.380) a round.
But, the base and primer are metal. Detectable?

Anyone who would go to the expense of buying
a printer, the materials and the bullets to make
a gun that will only fire one round at a time for
what has to be a very limited number of rounds
is my kind of criminal. If he misses, he dies.

That's a polymer case. The projectile (bullet) is still metal. It has to be to work.

Just think, 3d printed non-traceable guns, tiki torches, and multidrug resistant TB self-infected suicide zealots. Ah the chaos in the streets.

The point is the technology gets better and better. It not the quality of the guns now, but they show it is possible to print them. They will be able to print more sophisticated and dangerous ones in the future. Trump first talked to the NRA. what is that about? They are the lobbying firm for gun manufacturers. So trump will want to stop them. but it is not possible. I see no solution.

No kiddies, this is not a phony left wing made up election problem. it is real.

I love that it bothers the left. Way too much freedom going on here.

Too bad your ability analyze the problem is so weak. The fact is if you can do it, kids can. They are more adept than most adults in computer tech. If they get the plans, they will try it. Then, someone might pay a kid to make a bunch of them. Making guns in your basement has lots of scary possibilities. This ends the discussion about slowing gun ptroliferation. Only interesting p[art is how will the NRA stop it?

I wasn't aware that "kids" could afford the 3D printers!! :dunno:

So the parents are going to have their kids print 3D guns??

Did you really type that? They buy a fucking printer and hook it up. Some go to work, Some go work out. Some take the wife to dinner. No the parents are likely not involved unless he is a white power type, KKK member, or a militia member. Some rightys are pretty crazy.

So now you're saying that the parent's aren't going to know what the kid is 3D printing??

If they're at work, why isn't the kid in school??

I would never suggest that a kid would do something like that. Obviously, you know they wouldn't. I guess I don't know kids like you do. Yeah, kids are never on their own. My mistake.

I guess all the stories about teen hacking are not true if they have parents.

I find all this hype about printing guns amusing. Anyone with any knowledge of firearms, especially those of us who reload, do.
Even without considering the chamber pressures involved, the cost of the cheapest materials for the printers make printing guns,
especially for any production of them, fruitless.

They have been printed and they work. If you are into engineering, you know they will get better and better,.. Technology does not stand still. And the printers are dropping in price while improving. the end is clear. And no, it is not the end of the world.
