Oil rises near $92 as OPEC signals no output hike

SINGAPORE – Oil prices rose to near $92 a barrel Monday in Asia as some OPEC ministers signaled the group doesn't plan to boost output to cool the recent jump in crude.

Benchmark oil for February delivery rose 27 cents to $91.78 a barrel late afternoon Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

On Thursday, the contract rose $1.03 to settle at $91.51, the highest level since October 2008. Global oil markets were closed Friday for the Christmas holiday.

Arab members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries said at a meeting in Cairo over the weekend that the full group would likely not meet until June to discuss production quota policy. OPEC, which accounts for about 40 percent of global crude output, left quotas unchanged at a meeting earlier this month.

why is it when oil prices rose to this level under bush....the left was crying foul over bush's oil ties and blaming him for letting big oil make big money...and yet when it rises to this level under obama...no one blames obama, it is just reported as 'fact'....

I wish we could boost output to cool the jump in crude.....wait, we have a bunch of offshore platforms which have been shut down.....what a great opportunity for Obama to solve a problem!......or, he could be another Jimmy Carter.......

Broken record.

Are you intentionally trying to parody yourself?

let's see if you can actually rise above just spouting petty insults all the time

Maybe because Bush CAME from the oil industry, approved billions in subsidies for the oil industry, and had oil industry cronies & loyalists in his admin? (such as Philip Cooney - a former oil industry lobbyist who headed up Bush's ENVIRONMENTAL task force, and went to work for Exxon after he was forced to resign).

Do I really have to address that kind of stupid question from someone who is 100% committed to protecting & defending Bush?

It bores me. That's why I commented as I did; I think this is your 100th thread with the same kind of "where are they now" idiocy. There should be some sort of prize for the 100th thread of anything...

thanks for attempting an actual intelligent discussion, let's see if you can keep it up

your premise is - maybe because bush came from the oil industry

ok....then we now realize that a president's connections to oil doesn't matter...so....just because bush happened to have some oil connections, the left gets away with blaming bush for rising oil prices while obama gets no blame because he apparently doesn't have oil connections

is this correct?

And the President's connections to the oil industry don't matter...why again?

Because you say so?

What a dolt.....

i never said so.....what does that make you....a dolt?

why is it you can't actual stay focused on what i said?

try again onceler....my words are still there, debate them without insult

this has nothing to do with Bush......this is 2010, Obama is president, OPEC is handing him a Carter challenge, will Obama be another Carter and do nothing to solve the problem except say "suck up and use less oil".......or will he end his ridiculous ban that's shut down oil wells already producing the oil we need.......the left doesn't have it's "it would take ten years" excuse this time.......

Has nothing to do with Bush?

Methinks you need to read the OP...

no, you do.....oil prices are up because OPEC chose to act in 2010.....that has nothing to do with Bush....

the media says nothing about Obama's response or actions....that has nothing to do with Bush....

is Obama going to be another Carter and do nothing?.....all he needs to do is say "start the pumps"......

The OP asked why people were up in arms about Bush when prices rose. I provided the answer.

primarily it asked why they weren't for Obama?.....I'm listening for your answer.....

You must be taking Yurtsie lessons. First it had "nothing to do with Bush," now it's on to well, "primarily."

At least you read something finally.

The answer isn't obvious? Okay, here goes - because Obama didn't come from the oil industry, and didn't hire oil cronies to head up any environmental positions in his admin.

Man, do you guys on the right need to be spoon-fed....

so we don't have to be concerned about Obama fucking things up because he didn't work for the oil industry?.....Carter didn't come from the oil industry and he fucked up an identical situation......again, WHY aren't you concerned that Obama is fucking things up....ironically, Bush didn't fuck up the oil industry even though he "came from there"......do you remember WHY oil prices came down during the Bush administration?.....because the limitations on using domestic oil expired.....within weeks the price dropped below the level at which using North Dakota tar sands was profitable......Obama reinstated those limits, and trumped it by shutting down gulf drilling......now where are we?.....looks to me like we would be better off if we had some oil cronies running things again.....

You reaaaalllllly need to read the question from the OP again.

You righties. I swear...

typical....you .haven't got the balls to answer my question so you'll spend a page or two arguing about who said what before.....I don't play your games.....

Play "my games"? You're the one who COMPLETELY ignored the question from the OP for starters, then finished by putting words in my mouth and telling me I said things I didn't even say.

It's not even worth a "try to keep up." You ignored the question the OP posed right from the start, then try to act like I'm being evasive....

act like I'm being evasive....

you should expect that to happen when you evade......this is the only part of the conversation that matters at the moment....posts 1-18 are no longer relevant....
again, WHY aren't you concerned that Obama is fucking things up

do you have the balls to answer it?.....
