Oklahoma teacher protest

simply give more money to schools in the federal system

its idiotic to claim schools cant get better with investment like ANY OTHER system can

every corporation uses money to change and improve their projects huh

why to fuck do you idiots insist money cant improve our schools ?

because you actually want to starve them to death
Because Desh if a corporation threw money at every problem they would soon be out of business.

I’m glad to hear you say that. For many accountability starts and stops with teachers but how would you enforce good governance by local school boards?

I can't answer that. Do you remember when Zuckerburg gave that huge donation to the Newark schools a few years back? Great book was written about it called The Prize. It goes into the details of the infighting of how to spend that money and shows all the fighting for control of the education budget and who has the power to distribute it. It's not an ideological book nor is it promoting an agenda. It's just telling a story which I wish more people heard. After reading it you definitely know the fallacy of the "just give them more money and our problems will be solved" crowd.

I would say that a better judge of a society is how it treats it's children.
Kids can't vote and have no legal rights so they are shit on by the one percent who runs this country.

That is a good point.

Some of the crappy, decrepit looking elementary schools I have been in make me feel almost ashamed

I do not think this country is set up particularly well to serve the interests of children. Which says a lot about us, since as you say they are the most powerless demographic of society. I am pretty sure poverty among children is higher than for any other group. And forget about subsidized day care, and mandatory paid maternity leave in this country. Ain't gonna happen in the near future.

If we now expect teachers to protect our children with guns then a bump in their salaries should be the least we can do to show our appreciation.

Not sure who is paying attention to this, but it's tough to watch what some of these teachers have to do just to make ends meet. Many work multiple jobs. The salaries they have talked about our incomprehensibly low to me...often just above the poverty line.

OK ranks 49th in teacher pay, but it's not like it's that great in most states.

What does it say about America that we put such a low priority on compensating this profession? I actually can't think of too many professions that I would consider to be more important. It makes no sense, and is a poor investment in our future.

Making $43K on average and getting 17 weeks vacation is such a burden....
