Politics...but not current politics...and not American politics!

On January 30th, 1933, President Paul Von Hindenburg of German named Adolph Hitler as Chancellor.

Germany was still reeling from its defeat in The Great War and its economy was in chaos. Hitler promised to MAKE GERMANY GREAT AGAIN...and to make its economy robust.

Hitler succeeded. German became great (Berlin, its capital became a cultural and economic manifestation that was the envy of Europe.)

Hitler was a huge success. His supporters laughed and mocked his opponents.

I maintain it is important to remember that the Nazi Party, much like the modern Republican Party, never actually won the popular vote. The best the Nazi's ever did was win around 36 percent of the vote in 1932. Most Germans voted for socialist and leftist parties.

Yep, you read that right. Most Germans voted for leftist and left of center parties in 1932. Most Germans did not give their consent by vote to the Nazis.

The Nazis only came to authoritarian power by staging a coup.

Which is pretty much how things unfolded in the Soviet Union.

The Bolsheviks were trounced in popular elections to the Constituent Assembly. Most Russians voted for liberal and democratic socialist parties.
Only a minority of Russians voted for the Bolsheviks.

And the only way the Bolsheviks could attain total power, was exactly how the Nazis attained it - by staging a coup.

Actually...Hitler's rise to the Chancellorship...was totally legitimate. It was within the power of Von Hindenburg to appoint Hitler...and that is what Von Hindenburg did.

But the legitimate appointment to the Chancellorship was followed by what amounted to a coup and the ultimate outlawing of all opposition parties.

Trying to argue that Republicans and Trump are Nazi's is lunacy and a sign that you are seriously mentally deranged and should seek the help of a mental health professional.

Don't worry, boy, Democrats won't be outlawed. It's too much comedic relief to want you to go anywhere.

Isn't a coup what the house is trying to do with this impeachment bullshit??

Only if you liberals are successful.

Don't do that. We all must know which party is authoritarian and refuses to stand up to the leader. It isn't the Dems.
It is odd how people can allow themselves to be totally subjugated by a leader and yet believe they are free from his power. Trump is a great conman. Those who cannot stand up to a con, are 100 percent in back of a conman grifter. You have been plucked.

Good point.

Although this thread has nothing to do with Trump.

Didn't even have him in mind when I wrote it.

Never crossed my mind.

How many times a day do you give a good old-fashioned Nazi salute to the life-sized Hitler bust on your mantle, Frank? Will you be having cake and ice cream today, or is that reserved for Hitler's birthday only?

No bust...no saluting.

Thanks for posting those pictures again.

You're the best!
